WHAT TO EXPECT: Sailor’s Valentines were classic souvenirs favored by Nantucket whalemen in the 19th century. Join this 3-class workshop with artist Helaine Buckley and make your own in this age-old shellcrafting tradition. Create a unique patters and choose from a variety of beautiful seashells of all colors and sizes to create a framed Sailor’s Valentine in a large hexagonal shadowbox suitable for hanging.
All materials will be provided.
EXTRAS: Each student will create a unique heirloom-worthy work of art.
DON’T FORGET: Bring and special shells or mementos you want to incorporate into your design. This class is in the Adams Makerspace in the Lower Level of the Education Wing.
