Collage Workshop with Annika Sarin and Payal Kumar

Join us at Belonging Books and The Cordial Eye for What Was Lost / Can Be Remembered — an immersive, community-centered art exhibition and event series that explores the invisible links connecting us through collective memory, ancestral inheritance, and shared storytelling.

Alongside the art exhibition by Annika Sarin and Payal Kumar, the artists will facilitate a collage workshop. Annika and payal will facilitate a community collage workshop where participants are invited to bring family photographs to create their own family-history-based artworks.

We will explore the questions: who gets access to nostalgia? What happens when we examine the past together through personal family history? And what can we gain from facing the past collectively for a better shared future?

The art exhibition (July 17-Aug 7) features:

* Annika Sarin, a multidisciplinary artist who utilizes design as a tool for care, change, and community-building, and
* payal kumar, a multidisciplinary cultural worker whose work is grounded in forms of folk art and [sub]cultural resistance.

Alongside the exhibition, on July 18, we will host an author event and collage workshop.

In the morning (10 am), Gayatri Sethi, educator, cultural worker and author of Diaspora-ish, will lead a conversation on Seeding Solidarity in Community. Amidst ongoing genocides and wars, escalating violence against immigrants, and the tightening fist of fascism, many of us are falling into despair. Community conversation on how we seed solidarity and grow beyond this turbulent world we inhabit now is so important. “Diaspora-ish” will be available to purchase from Belonging Books.

In the afternoon (1 pm), Annika and payal will facilitate a community collage workshop where participants are invited to bring family photographs to create their own family-history-based artworks.
