Adolescent Mental Health with Author Cara Bean

October 14th, 5:30-6:30

Sturgis Library

For adolescents 12+, parents, caregivers, educators, & anyone else who wants to learn about this critical topic.

Cara Bean is an obsessive doodler, author and art educator. She provides interactive workshops on creativity with people of all ages and backgrounds in various public forums. Cara lives on the Southcoast of Massachusetts with her partner Matt and their dog Raisin.

Here I Am, I Am Me takes readers on an illustrated journey to the center of the brain. Each of the 9 chapters explores a different aspect of mental health, from the brain and the mind, to feelings and emotions.

By portraying complex neuroscience concepts with a cast of illustrated characters (that represent parts of the brain), the book explains what is really going on in the reader’s head in an accessible, approachable way that ultimately serves to empower the reader.

Participants will explore:
normalizing mental health conversations
brain science in an accessible, approachable way.
healthy coping strategies & building resilience.
social and emotional learning.

“Mandatory reading for every teen–and every adult who forgot what it was like to be a teen.” -Colleen AF Venable

“Here I Am, I Am Me helped normalize my son’s anxiety and range of emotions Cara has brought nurturance and awareness to mental health. Her book wrapped its loving arms around my son; perhaps its words and illustrations can also wrap its arms around your child!”
-J.T. Grazie, author of Healing Aprons, An Anxiety Diar
