Sculptor Donald Gerola created this 6,000 pound kinetic sculpture. Gerola started building these larger than life kinetic pieces in 2000, as part of a lifelong dream to build more than 100 steel structures. He studied physics at the University of Dayton, Ohio and was mentored by his stepfather, William Borland, chief of materials for the World Trade Center in New York. Gerorla says of The Hummingbird, “You work and work at this for months and months before you get to see it. This fits with the character of Hyannis with its nautical blue and green colors and its kinetic function. This is like a New England weathervane.” More Information
