DESCRIPTION:THE COAST GUARD’S GREATEST SMALL BOAT RESCUE \nOn February 18\, 1952\, four courageous crew members from U.S. Coast Guard Station\nChatham\, launched a 36-foot wooden motor lifeboat into the teeth of a raging Nor’east storm to\nrescue sailors stranded on a stricken tanker\, SS PENDLETON\, that had broken in half and was\ndrifting off Monomoy Island.\nBattling 40-foot waves\, freezing temperatures and dangerous shoals\, the Coast Guardsmen were\nable to save 32 of the 33 crew members aboard PENDLETON and safely return them to\nChatham – a feat that is still considered to be the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard\nhistory.\nThe PENDLETON rescue mission was highlighted in the best-selling book\, The Finest Hours\,\nwritten by famed Cape Cod author Casey Sherman\, and later was made into a Disney-produced\nfeature-length move of the same name.\nThe four crew members\, led by Massachusetts native Bernie Webber\, each received the Gold\nLifesaving Award – the Coast Guard’s highest individual honor – for their heroic efforts on that\nfateful Cape Cod night.\nCoast Guard Auxiliary member Reid Oslin\, a Cape Cod resident\, has done extensive research\non the PENDLETON rescue and has shared the fascinating story with numerous groups\nthroughout the area. \nFor more information or to register for this event\, please contact Amy Wolfe at awolfe@clamsnet.org or by calling the OVL directly at (508)428-5757

Fake emails and phone calls pretending to be from banks or government agencies are just a few ways you can be victimized by online fraud\, and it can cost people thousands of dollars. Seniors are oftentimes too embarrassed to share with their family that they have fallen victim to these tactics\, when in reality\, this can happen to anyone. \nThe Osterville Village Library will be hosting a free event featuring Detective Christopher Botsford from the Barnstable Police Department.
