SUMMARY:'The Art of Cellphoneography' with David Mullen
DESCRIPTION:Explore the art of Cellphoneography with portrait and fine art photographer David Mullen!\nThe best camera is the one you have with you! And the best darkroom is the one you have with you! In this talk we’ll look at basics of good photographic composition\, then take a tour through two post-processing apps that every cellphoneographer should be using: Lightroom Mobile and Snapseed. While the images our cameras produce are properly exposed\, with good color and sharpness\, they are only the starting point of what is possible. By using free applications like Snapseed and the free version of Lightroom Mobile\, we can improve upon reality and add our own artistic voice to our images before sharing them with the world. \nFor more information or to register for this event\, please contact Amy Wolfe at awolfe@clamsnet.org or by calling the OVL directly at (508)428-5757

SUMMARY:Local Historian Paul Chesbro presents 'Old Osterville'
DESCRIPTION:Local historian and author Paul Chesbro will lead an engaging history presentation focused on the village of Osterville\, Massachusetts\, exploring its rich heritage and evolution over time. \nPaul will guide the audience through key chapters in Osterville’s development\, including the rise of its maritime legacy—highlighting the world-renowned Crosby Yacht Yard\, known for building traditional catboats and Wianno class sailboats that have become synonymous with the area’s nautical identity. \nAlong with vivid descriptions of 19th- and early 20th-century community life and industry\, Chesbro illustrates how Osterville evolved from an oyster-harvesting settlement into a cherished coastal village with deep local traditions and historical landmarks. Period photographs and anecdotes will enrich the talk\, helping attendees connect personally with the stories of the people and places that shaped the village. \nThe event offers both long-time residents and visitors a deeper appreciation for Osterville’s heritage and underscores the importance of preserving its unique historical narrative. \nFor more information or to register for this event\, please contact Amy Wolfe at awolfe@clamsnet.org or by calling the OVL directly at (508)428-5757

SUMMARY:Historic Storms of Cape Cod with Author Don Wilding
DESCRIPTION:Cape Cod has always been in the path of deadly hurricanes and ferocious storms. Unwelcome summer visitors include the “Long Island Express” Hurricane of 1938\, the Great Atlantic Hurricane of 1944\, the twin Hurricanes Carol and Edna in 1954\, and Hurricane Bob in 1991. \nThese storms destroyed countless homes and left several coastal communities under several feet of water. Surging tides carried away houses with residents inside who didn’t survive and sank the Coast Guard lightship Vineyard in Buzzards Bay\, killing all 12 crew members. Fall and winter brought the benchmark Blizzard of 1978\, the nor’easter of January 1987\, and the infamous “Perfect Storm” of October 1991 which delivered some of the highest tides ever seen on the Outer Cape. \nLocal author Don Wilding revisits the Cape’s most severe weather events and their devastating impact. \nThis program will take place in the Main Meeting Room at the Osterville Village Library on Saturday March 28th at 1pm. For more information or to register for this event\, please contact Amy Wolfe at awolfe@clamsnet.org or by calling the OVL directly at (508)428-5757

SUMMARY:Author talk with Maxwell Stearns\, Author of ‘Parliamentary America'
DESCRIPTION:This program will take place in the Main Meeting Room at the Osterville Village Library on Monday March 16th at 1pm \nFor more information or to register for this event please contact Amy Wolfe at awolfe@clamsnet.org or by calling (508)428-5757 \nAuthor talk with Maxwell Stearns\, Author of ‘Parliamentary America: The Least Radical Means of Radically Repairing Our Broken Democracy’ \nAmericans face increasingly stark choices each presidential election and a growing sense that our government can’t solve the nation’s most urgent challenges. Our eighteenth-century system is ill suited to our twenty-first-century world. Information-age technology has undermined our capacity to face common problems together and turned our democracy upside down\, with gerrymanders letting representatives choose voters rather than voters choosing them. In Parliamentary America\, Maxwell L. Stearns argues that the solution to these complex problems is a parliamentary democracy. \nStearns considers such leading alternatives as ranked choice voting\, the national popular vote\, and congressional term limits\, showing why these can’t solve our constitutional crisis. Instead\, three amendments―expanding the House of Representatives\, having House party coalitions choose the president\, and letting the House end a failing presidency based on no confidence―will produce a robust multiparty democracy. These amendments hold an essential advantage over other proposals: by leaving every member of the House and Senate as incumbents in their districts or states\, the amendments provide a pressure-release valve against reforms threatening that status. \nStearns takes readers on a world tour―England\, France\, Germany\, Israel\, Taiwan\, Brazil\, and Venezuela―showing what works in government\, what doesn’t\, and how to make the best features our own. Genuine party competition and governing coalitions\, commonplace across the globe\, may seem like a fantasy in the United States. But we can make them a reality. This rare book offers an optimistic vision\, explaining in accessible terms how to transform our troubled democracy into a thriving parliamentary America. \nThis program will take place in the Main Meeting Room at the Osterville Village Library on Monday March 16th at 1pm \nFor more information or to register for this event please contact Amy Wolfe at awolfe@clamsnet.org or by calling (508)428-5757
