SUMMARY:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ Artists on the Cape
DESCRIPTION:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod.\nEXHIBIT: May 23 to June 21\, 2026\nOPENING RECEPTION: May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nOutside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod. Artists such as Joerg Dressler\, Beth Faherty\, Fran O’Neill\, and Paul Rizzo\, among many other skilled creatives\, will showcase their work at Cotuit Center for the Arts from May 23 to June 21\, 2026\, with an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nThe Outside Straight Lines biennial exhibit arose out of concern that much of LGBTQ+ art across the Cape has been unintentionally segregated to Provincetown\, often forcing those showing their work outside of this Queer Mecca into self-censorship throughout other venues of the Cape. In a time of book banning of LGBTQ+ literature\, erasures of crosswalks\, and blatant attacks on trans rights\, this showcase has acted as an affirmation of collective LGBTQ+ expression. With support from the Mid-Cape Cultural Council\, GSAs across Cape high schools have been invited to view this powerful exhibit. \nAccording to curator David Cravenho\, “I am impressed by our LGBTQ+ Community for its strength and resilience. Growing up queer as a child and navigating life through the lens of a straight world is quite the feat.” This exhibit not only hosts 13 Queer artists in a single space but also celebrates the vast diversity of our Queer Cape Cod community–from the expressionist figure to the realistic Cape Cod landscape. Cravenho believes strongly in art’s ability to armor oneself: “Becoming an adult as an artist and putting on your survival mechanism to express your power through your work is a gift from beyond ourselves.” \nJoin artists for an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3-5pm\, or drop by Cotuit Center for the Arts between May 23 and June 21\, 2026 during visiting times to view this powerful visual collection of LGBTQ+ voices. \nMark Adams \nJoerg Dressler \nBeth Faherty \nKenneth Hawkey \nMegan Hinton \nPete Hocking \nMarc Kundmann \nFran O’Neill \nPaul Rizzo \nChristopher Sousa \nAlan Trugman \nForrest Williams \nLaurence Young \nSponsored by the Mass Cultural Council and the Mid-Cape Cultural Council

SUMMARY:Auditions: Men On Boats
DESCRIPTION:Men on Boats\, A Play by Jaclyn Backhaus\nDirected by Jakob White\nAudition Information\nJune 5\, 2026  6:00pm – 9:00pm and  Sunday\, June 7\,2026   1:00pm – 4:00pm \nCotuit Center for the Arts will hold auditions for Men on Boats\, a fast-paced\, wildly entertaining adventure about ambition\, bravery\, and the absurdity of exploration. \nThe year is 1869. Led by John Wesley Powell\, a one-armed explorer with an excitable soul\, a motley crew of adventurers sets out to chart the Colorado River and the unexplored American frontier. Along the way\, they face treacherous rapids\, impossible odds\, clashing personalities\, hunger\, danger\, and more than a little chaos. \nWith characters including a maniacally talkative youth\, an old Civil War veteran who wants nothing to do with people\, an overexcited Brit\, and a hunter dressed in beaver skins\, Men on Boats is a bold\, comedic retelling of history that asks what it means to press forward when the journey gets dangerous. \nNOTE: The characters in Men On Boats were historically cisgender white males. The cast should be made up entirely of people who are not. We are looking for diverse actors who are female-identifying\, trans-identifying\, genderfluid\, and/or non-gender-conforming.

SUMMARY:Twisted 2026
DESCRIPTION:Twisted 2026\n\n\nSaturday\, May 30\, 2026     7:30pm – 9:30pm\n\n  \nTwisted is a spin-off of Broadway Backwards\, an annual celebration where men sing Musical Theatre songs originally written for women and vice versa. Broadway Backwards began as a NYC grassroots concert performed in 2006. Regular CCftA performers John Weltman and Tedi Marsh are producing the show this year for the sixth time as a fundraiser\, with all proceeds benefiting the Center. \nTedi says\, “It is pure fun to interpret songs that we will never be cast in. Watching the imagination of Cotuit Center for the Arts’ performers\, and the audience’s reaction\, is truly the high point of this production. Not to mention\, in our own small grassroots way\, we fundraise for this very worthy cause\, our local Art Center\, in the same spirit Broadway Backwards benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and the Lesbian\, Gay\, Bisexual & Transgender Community.” \n  \nTickets available at: https://www.onthestage.tickets/show/cotuit-center-for-the-arts/6969363b3e2b905b2ea0a837
