It is divided into two parts: Nocturne – Cape Cod After Dark\, and Golden Hour. From the mysteries of the night sky: aurora borealis\, the milky way galaxy and the stars above\, to the magical light of sunrises and sunsets that characterize the Cape we all know and love. Allie’s images reveal how light transforms the landscape and shapes our perception\, mood\, and sense of wonder. \n*Allie will be presenting a program “Photographing the Northern Lights” to complement this exhibit on Saturday\, November 8th at 1pm. DESCRIPTION:Intriguing fresh evidence connected to New England’s infamous ‘Vampire Panic’ in the 18th century will be revealed in a Halloween talk at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster on Thursday\, October 30\, 2025\, at 1:00pm. \nMedievalist and storyteller\, Susan Jarek-Glidden’s new talk will include a case from Connecticut River Valley\, said to have taken place in 1725 and only discovered last year. She will also be discussing the recent finding of an unusually patterned quilt reputed to have belonged to one of the area’s best known ‘vampires’. \nAround 20 cases of ‘vampirism’ are known to have been documented in a wave of panic that gripped the area in the 17 and 1800s. Rachel will demonstrate the ink-making process and share some of the fascinating history around these dye-making processes. Come try out these unusual materials and see what you can make!\nThursday\, September 25: Painting with Insects\nA few spectacular and famous dye and paint colors are made from insects. Rachel Mirus will introduce some of the fascinating history around these dye sources and lead an ink-making exploration using cochineal. Students will have time to work on an art project prompt\, inspired by the history and natural history of these insect dyes. \nFriday\, September 26: Botanical Painting\nFor centuries\, artists looked to natural sources to get their paint\, including from plants. Easy-to-get sources from teas or foods can provide fun colors to extract and experiment with\, reminding us of this old artistic tradition. In this workshop we’ll meet a few plant materials that can be used as paint by making our own\, then together we’ll experiment with making art from our fresh selection of colors. \nSaturday\, September 27: Painting with Mushrooms\nYou may have foraged\, grown\, or eaten mushrooms\, but have you painted with them? Many mushrooms and lichens can be used to make inks in a spectrum of earthy colors. Rachel Mirus will demonstrate the ink-making process and introduce some local lichens and mushrooms that produce color. Then we’ll experiment with making art from a selection of pre-made mushroom inks. Come try out these unusual materials and see what you can make! \n*This class is for an adult audience \n

This is where we spend much of our time when we’re not enjoying the beaches\, so it seems natural to include them in a summer show. Like the beach\, the garden changes every day and every year\, and yet\, the underlying rhythms remain the same. Softly undulating swaths of color and light\, the curves of pathways and layered natural forms\, all bring a sense of serenity and wonder. \nI am interested in both realism and abstraction and how the two ways of seeing connect with expressionism – the ways we feel. For me\, the beach is a primal place\, vast and inspiring\, nourishing and refreshing. In our yards and gardens\, we try to create our own nourishing landscape – with varying degrees of success. A garden is an intimate\, evolving relationship with nature and its wild possibilities and surprises.” \nEve studied at Vesper George School of Art\, School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts\, Massachusetts College of Art\, and Lesley College School of Expressive Therapies and she holds a BFA in Printmaking and Drawing from the Massachusetts College of Art \nAs an art educator\, Eve taught at Buckingham\, Browne and Nichols School\, Cambridge\, MA\, Brookline Adult Education\, Nauset Community Education\, Cape Cod Museum of Natural History\, private lessons and workshops. Rich Mondays & Thursdays June 16– August 28\, 2025 from 10am-1pm. \nJoin Cape Cod wildlife woodcarver\, Stephen C. Rich in the scenic Marshview Room at the Museum to observe a rare demonstration: transforming a simple block of wood into a beautiful bird! Ask questions and enjoy the Eldridge Arnold carving workshop exhibit. \nAlthough largely self-taught\, Stephen took up woodcarving in 1987 and has studied under some of the best-known carvers in local classes given by carver/teacher\, June Noll\, and in seminars with established carvers. After starting with a few simple decoys\, he made steady progress into the ranks of advanced wood carvers and artisans. \nStephen has lived on Cape Cod since 1985 with his studio located near the waterways and marshlands of Osterville and Marston’s Mills. This is the habitat of hawks\, osprey\, blue herons\, ducks of all kinds\, swans\, and countless other species. DESCRIPTION:The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster presents Forest Bathing Meditation Walks: Deepening your Relationship with Nature with CCMNH Field Guide Carol Marcy. \nImmerse yourself in the unique environments of marsh\, creek\, forest and beach surrounding the Museum and learn to pay attention in a new way with Carol Marcy’s guided meditations. The walk moves slowly interspersed with reflections that encourage a deep connection with your surroundings. Learn how slowing down\, grounding and opening your awareness to the abundant life in and around you\, can be healing\, calming\, peaceful and deeply refreshing. \nThe practice of forest bathing comes to us from Japan\, and draws inspiration from ancient Shinto and Buddhist practices that recognize the healing qualities of nature. Rich Mondays & Thursdays June 16– August 28\, 2025 from 10am-1pm. \nJoin Cape Cod wildlife woodcarver\, Stephen C. Rich in the scenic Marshview Room at the Museum to observe a rare demonstration: transforming a simple block of wood into a beautiful bird! Ask questions and enjoy the Eldridge Arnold carving workshop exhibit. \nAlthough largely self-taught\, Stephen took up woodcarving in 1987 and has studied under some of the best-known carvers in local classes given by carver/teacher\, June Noll\, and in seminars with established carvers. After starting with a few simple decoys\, he made steady progress into the ranks of advanced wood carvers and artisans. \nStephen has lived on Cape Cod since 1985 with his studio located near the waterways and marshlands of Osterville and Marston’s Mills. This is the habitat of hawks\, osprey\, blue herons\, ducks of all kinds\, swans\, and countless other species. DESCRIPTION:Naturescape Gallery presents: “Gardens & Beaches” by Eve Aspinwall \nJuly 2 – August 30\, 2025 \nCape Cod Museum of Natural History \nNaturescape Gallery at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History presents Gardens & Beaches\, paintings by artist and art educator\, Eve Aspinwall\, July 2 – August 30\, 2025\, during Museum open hours. \nArtist Statement:\n“I didn’t set out to do paintings of my garden\, I just couldn’t help myself. This is where we spend much of our time when we’re not enjoying the beaches\, so it seems natural to include them in a summer show. Like the beach\, the garden changes every day and every year\, and yet\, the underlying rhythms remain the same. Softly undulating swaths of color and light\, the curves of pathways and layered natural forms\, all bring a sense of serenity and wonder. \nI am interested in both realism and abstraction and how the two ways of seeing connect with expressionism – the ways we feel. For me\, the beach is a primal place\, vast and inspiring\, nourishing and refreshing. In our yards and gardens\, we try to create our own nourishing landscape – with varying degrees of success. A garden is an intimate\, evolving relationship with nature and its wild possibilities and surprises.” \nEve studied at Vesper George School of Art\, School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts\, Massachusetts College of Art\, and Lesley College School of Expressive Therapies and she holds a BFA in Printmaking and Drawing from the Massachusetts College of Art \nAs an art educator\, Eve taught at Buckingham\, Browne and Nichols School\, Cambridge\, MA\, Brookline Adult Education\, Nauset Community Education\, Cape Cod Museum of Natural History\, private lessons and workshops. She has exhibited in multiple shows including Boston Visual Artist Union and Gallery 52 in Boston\, Hopkins and David Wright Galleries in Wellfleet\, Casa Vieja Gallery and Siddhia Hutchinson Galleries in Vieques\, PR\, OMA Gallery and Adorn\, in Orleans\, Cotuit Center for the Arts\, Cape Cod Museum of Natural History\, Cultural Center of Cape Cod\, and Cape Cod Museum of Art. \nEve Aspinwall lives in South Orleans where she works from her home studio and offers private drawing/painting classes and outdoor workshops.\n*For Info on upcoming classes and outdoor workshops contact eve-aspinwall@comcast.net;\nInstagram: @eveaspinwallart \nIncluded with Museum Admission \n*Dates for the exhibition are subject to minor changes and may temporarily be unavailable due to Auditorium programming. The walk moves slowly interspersed with reflections that encourage a deep connection with your surroundings. Learn how slowing down\, grounding and opening your awareness to the abundant life in and around you\, can be healing\, calming\, peaceful and deeply refreshing. \nThe practice of forest bathing comes to us from Japan and draws inspiration from ancient Shinto and Buddhist practices that recognize the healing qualities of nature. You will bathe in the living being of the Forest by taking deep breaths of air filled with the calming scent of pine\, experiencing the breeze on your skin\, hearing the sound of the leaf orchestra under the direction of the wind and trees\, soaking up the healing rays of the sun\, and seeing the vast array of colors and shapes provided by Nature. \nCarol Marcy has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology\, a Masters in Dance/Movement Therapy and is a certified Meditation teacher. \n*Rain cancels the walk / This walk is a little over a mile long and will last approximately 90 minutes. Rich Mondays & Thursdays June 16– August 28\, 2025 from 10am-1pm. \nJoin Cape Cod wildlife woodcarver\, Stephen C. Rich in the scenic Marshview Room at the Museum to observe a rare demonstration: transforming a simple block of wood into a beautiful bird! Ask questions and enjoy the Eldridge Arnold carving workshop exhibit. \nAlthough largely self-taught\, Stephen took up woodcarving in 1987 and has studied under some of the best-known carvers in local classes given by carver/teacher\, June Noll\, and in seminars with established carvers. After starting with a few simple decoys\, he made steady progress into the ranks of advanced wood carvers and artisans. \nStephen has lived on Cape Cod since 1985 with his studio located near the waterways and marshlands of Osterville and Marston’s Mills. This is the habitat of hawks\, osprey\, blue herons\, ducks of all kinds\, swans\, and countless other species.
