In this class\, we’ll concentrate on the importance of Design\, Value\, Color\, and Rhythm to make your art stronger with your personal voice! Learn to simplify and get the bones of your painting down first\, without wasting time in the beginning with unnecessary details… “ya don’t put up the curtains till the house is built”! Discover the importance of building up a surface history in your paintings\, how “taking off” is just as important as “putting on”\, as well as the magnificence of mark-making. Being open to trying new techniques and taking risks\, keeps things fresh and exciting. In this class\, we’ll concentrate on the importance of Design\, Value\, Color\, and Rhythm to make your art stronger with your personal voice! Learn to simplify and get the bones of your painting down first\, without wasting time in the beginning with unnecessary details… “ya don’t put up the curtains till the house is built”! Discover the importance of building up a surface history in your paintings\, how “taking off” is just as important as “putting on”\, as well as the magnificence of mark-making. DESCRIPTION:Join author Amy Whorf McGuiggan for a discussion of her new book featuring the vivid\, hand-colored lantern slide views of Provincetown (1910–1930) by illustrator and photographer Harry C. Whorf. \nThursday\, November 20\, 4:00–5:00 PM with Audience Q&A \nJoin author Amy Whorf McGuiggan for a discussion of her new book featuring the vivid\, hand-colored lantern slide views of Provincetown (1910–1930) by illustrator and photographer Harry C. Whorf. Once presented to Boston audiences by Sarah “Sadie” Whorf\, these Impressionistic slides—now newly digitized—capture the color\, history\, and seaside spirit of old Provincetown. \nAmy Whorf McGuiggan can trace her Provincetown roots to 1760 when her 5th great-grandfather\, John Whorf\, was born. She spent idyllic childhood summers in Provincetown’s West End and her first book was a memoir of those summers\, My Provincetown: Memories of a Cape Cod Childhood. Much of her professional research has focused on Provincetown’s multi-layered history\, from curating a whaling exhibit at the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum and an exhibition of the work of artist Albert Edel for the Provincetown Art Association and Museum\, to researching and writing the text for a booklet about Provincetown’s historic cemeteries and memorials. From that project\, the Revolutionary War service of eight Provincetown men was verified by the Daughters of the American Revolution. Their graves in the Winthrop Street Cemetery have been respectfully marked. Her interest in and research about the Outer Cape cemeteries has continued with a monthly column\, Graveyard Shift\, for the Provincetown Independent.

DESCRIPTION:Cape Cod Museum of Art \n(6) Tuesdays\, October 21 – December 2\, 2025 \n10:00 am – 12:30 pm. \nEd Chesnovitch concentrates on the importance of Design\, Value\, Color\, and Rhythm to make students’ art stronger with their personal voice. \nA good painting always needs a few things from the painter: Be Passionate\, Be Fearless\, and Trust the Process! Being open to trying new techniques and taking risks\, keeps things fresh and exciting. In this class\, we’ll concentrate on the importance of Design\, Value\, Color\, and Rhythm to make your art stronger with your personal voice! Learn to simplify and get the bones of your painting down first\, without wasting time in the beginning with unnecessary details… “ya don’t put up the curtains till the house is built”! Discover the importance of building up a surface history in your paintings\, how “taking off” is just as important as “putting on”\, as well as the magnificence of mark-making. Weekly exercises will definitely get you out of your comfort zone and give you permission to play\, explore\, and throw the concept of perfection out the back door! Get ready to paint and have some fun\, because you never know when the next accidental masterpiece comes to fruition. This is not a beginner’s class and is not formatted for watercolors.
