BEYOND BARNSTABLE SEASIDE STROLLS:
South Cape Beach State Park, Mashpee
Within this serene state park is Dead Neck Trail, a nearly 3 mile out and back walk which parallels the beautiful barrier beach facing Nantucket Sound and the shores of Waquoit Bay.
Great Island Trail, Wellfleet
The longest hike in the Cape Cod National Seashore, this scenic and sometimes strenuous walk along beaches, over sand dunes and through coastal forest rewards you with wonderful views of the Herring River, Wellfleet Harbor and Cape Cod Bay, including a magnificent overlook at Jeremy Point.
The Knob, Woods Hole
A pleasant and popular wooded path leads you to this rocky and bulbous point with spectacular view of Quissett Harbor and Buzzards Bay.
Hardings Beach Trail, Chatham
Best enjoyed at low tide, this nearly two mile hike takes you through dunes and then back along the shore, with lots of opportunities to spot osprey, shore birds, and the lighthouse at Stage Harbor.
Chapin Beach, Dennis
Wooded suburban neighborhood areas recede and white sand skirts across the road as you approach Chapin Beach in Dennis. A wonderful walk west along the beach leads you towards Yarmouth’s Bass Hole, while at low tide you can wade far into Cape Cod Bay to discover marine life.
