SUMMARY:Young People's Concert
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, November 18\, 2025\n10:00 AM & 11:45 AM \nEach Fall\, Cape Symphony partners with area school districts to bring professional\, live symphonic music to young people on Cape Cod. Approximately 2\,800 elementary school students\, with their teachers and chaperones\, take a field trip to the Barnstable Performing Arts Center for a school-day concert designed with the children’s interests and studies in mind. \nTickets are free to all participating school districts. \nThe Young People’s Concert is made possible through generous support from The Cape Cod Melody Tent (South Shore Playhouse Associates)\, The Thomas Anthony Pappas Charitable Foundation\, and The Enoch T. Cobb Trust.

Our stirring program opens with Dudley Buck’s 1879 Festival Overture on The Star-Spangled Banner and Morton Gould’s rousing An American Salute\, followed by Samuel Barber’s evocative Night Flight. Solemn trumpet fanfares frame Maurice Ravel’s elegant Le Tombeau de Couperin and Barber’s deeply moving Adagio for Strings. Following intermission\, Aaron Copland’s grand Symphony No. 3 brings the afternoon to a triumphant resolution. Experience a concert filled with reflection\, remembrance\, and reverence for those who have served. \nTicketholders are invited to a preconcert talk about the program\, led by George Scharr\, Cape Symphony Orchestra trombonist from 1989 – 2025. Rising star Sofia Hernández-Williams\, just 11 years old\, takes the stage for Saint-Saëns’ passionate and virtuosic Cello Concerto No. 1\, a favorite of virtuoso cellists since its first performance in Paris in 1873. After an intermission\, Brahms’s triumphant Symphony No. 1 brings the performance to a powerful close. \nTicketholders are invited to a preconcert talk about the program\, led by Assistant Conductor Joe Marchio. The talk begins one hour before the concert.
