SUMMARY:History on Tap: Women Pirates!
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, March 12\, 2026 \n“Were there any girl pirates? Of course! Join Jessica Sheppard on March 12th and discover that females have been involved in roles traditionally held by males throughout history- and from all different nationalities. View documentation from newspapers\, archival records\, novels\, sports and movies. This lecture will focus on the strong\, powerful\, ruthless\, and defiant females identifying as pirates. The underlying gender stereotypes and norms of society will be discussed in connection with the pressures placed on females which led to their decisions to become pirates. Come learn the answers to these questions: Who were some of the famous female pirates of long ago? Why would anyone (including girls) want to be a pirate? Why is it hard to find information about female pirate stories? Why was it considered so taboo for females to be at sea? \nPart of our History on Tap series—join us for an evening of local history\, conversation\, and craft brews. \nAdmission: $10 per person / $5 for members \nMust be 21+ to sample beer; IDs will be checked at the door. \nEnjoy craft beer from our sponsor\, Cape Cod Beer\, along with cheese\, crackers\, water\, and non-alcoholic beer options. \nWe highly recommend reserving your tickets on our website in advance. Popular events often sell out quickly\, and we cannot always accommodate walk-ins. Don’t miss out—plan and secure your spot! “
