SUMMARY:BLT's Marsh Madness: Where Nature Always Wins!
DESCRIPTION:BLT’s Marsh Madness: Where Nature Always Wins\nSunday\, February 22\, 2026 9:00AM – Monday\, April 6\, 2026  4:00PM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSalt air\, strong tides\, and serious bragging rights—welcome to Marsh Madness\, Cape Cod–style. You don’t need a basketball bracket\, a whistle\, or a PhD in birding to play along—Barnstable Land Trust’s inaugural Marsh Madness is officially in session from February 22 – April 6. With more than 20\,000 acres\, Cape Cod’s marshes are the ultimate defensive line—buffering storms\, fighting sea level rise\, and taking on climate change like absolute champions. But the matchup is tough: according to the Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC)\, 36% (roughly 7\,000 acres) of our historic salt marshes have already been lost or severely degraded. All March long\, it’s game on. Meet the marsh’s top contenders—from plants and birds to insects\, marine life\, and other habitat heroes (and a few notorious villains). Cast your votes\, build bragging rights\, score a chance at a prize package\, and help crown Cape Cod’s conservation champions in this truly wild Marsh Madness match-up. Join the madness. The marsh is counting on you. \nCast your vote at:  https://blt.org/marshmadness/vote

SUMMARY:Naturescape Gallery presents "Flora" exhibit featuring Artist Katherine Nora
DESCRIPTION:Naturescape Gallery at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History presents\nFlora by artist Katherine Nora\, February 14 – April 30\, 2026\, during Museum open hours. \nArtist’s statement: \nFor the last twenty years most of my painting has been a response to what is growing in the land around me. Whether from direct contact with my garden or the woods surrounding it\, a glimpse of roadside scene or even the memory of a dream\, the urge is the same: to capture that plant-action. I see personalities\, communication\, or simply grace\, dignity and wisdom. To satisfy my curiosity and capture these qualities\, I wait for the painting to tell me what it wants and allow my participation in the gestures of the natural world. \nKatherine Nora has lived on Cape Cod for most of her life and shown her work here for decades. She is known for depicting the natural world with bold colors and strong brush strokes. And if you are in Orleans having a coffee at the Hot Chocolate Sparrow\, look towards the CVS building and you will see the incredible “Depot Mural” that depicts the “Yesterday-Year Railroad Station” by artists Katherine Nora and Dan Joy. The mural is a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the train arriving in Orleans. \nA multi-talented artist\, Katherine is also the author of three novels\, two of which are historical fiction set in Orleans: Theo and Ria and Sipson’s Island; and Pepromeno\, a Greek word meaning destiny or fate\, chronicles a son’s discovery of his missing father. \nYou can view more of Katherine’s work on her Instagram page: k.nora_art\, or at\nAdorn 211 Main St\, Orleans\, MA 02653\, adorncapecod.com. \n*Included with Museum Admission \nFor more information\, please call the Museum at 508-896-3867 ext. 133.

SUMMARY:Invasive Insects and How to ID Them
DESCRIPTION:Could you identify a Spotted Lanternfly if you saw one in your garden? Join horticulturalist Russ Norton for a special presentation on invasive insects as the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History launches the 2026 Gardening for Life Series on Sunday\, February 22 at 1pm. \nSpotted Lanternflies are just one of the potential pests making their way towards us that the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension (CCCE) has put on its “See? Squash it.” list. The bug hasn’t yet been found here but has been steadily creeping through Massachusetts. Russell\, CCCE’s Horticulture and Agriculture Educator\, will explain how to identify and report it – and other unwanted species – if you find one. \nThe event takes place on the eve of National Invasive Species Awareness Week (Feb 23-27)\, which aims to raise awareness as gardeners return to their yards ahead of Spring. \nHosted by Janice Donovan\, manager of the historic Shirley G Cross Wildflower Garden\, Gardening for Life is an annual series at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History that brings experts across a range of fields to speak to hobbyists and professionals. Upcoming topics include spring prep\, attracting birds to your yard\, and the secret world of fireflies. \nPLUS\, at every event we’ll be hosting a bake sale filled with delicious treats\, with proceeds going to support the incredible work of Brewster Pollinators.
