SUMMARY:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ Artists on the Cape
DESCRIPTION:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod.\nEXHIBIT: May 23 to June 21\, 2026\nOPENING RECEPTION: May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nOutside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod. Artists such as Joerg Dressler\, Beth Faherty\, Fran O’Neill\, and Paul Rizzo\, among many other skilled creatives\, will showcase their work at Cotuit Center for the Arts from May 23 to June 21\, 2026\, with an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nThe Outside Straight Lines biennial exhibit arose out of concern that much of LGBTQ+ art across the Cape has been unintentionally segregated to Provincetown\, often forcing those showing their work outside of this Queer Mecca into self-censorship throughout other venues of the Cape. In a time of book banning of LGBTQ+ literature\, erasures of crosswalks\, and blatant attacks on trans rights\, this showcase has acted as an affirmation of collective LGBTQ+ expression. With support from the Mid-Cape Cultural Council\, GSAs across Cape high schools have been invited to view this powerful exhibit. \nAccording to curator David Cravenho\, “I am impressed by our LGBTQ+ Community for its strength and resilience. Growing up queer as a child and navigating life through the lens of a straight world is quite the feat.” This exhibit not only hosts 13 Queer artists in a single space but also celebrates the vast diversity of our Queer Cape Cod community–from the expressionist figure to the realistic Cape Cod landscape. Cravenho believes strongly in art’s ability to armor oneself: “Becoming an adult as an artist and putting on your survival mechanism to express your power through your work is a gift from beyond ourselves.” \nJoin artists for an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3-5pm\, or drop by Cotuit Center for the Arts between May 23 and June 21\, 2026 during visiting times to view this powerful visual collection of LGBTQ+ voices. \nMark Adams \nJoerg Dressler \nBeth Faherty \nKenneth Hawkey \nMegan Hinton \nPete Hocking \nMarc Kundmann \nFran O’Neill \nPaul Rizzo \nChristopher Sousa \nAlan Trugman \nForrest Williams \nLaurence Young \nSponsored by the Mass Cultural Council and the Mid-Cape Cultural Council

SUMMARY:Cape Symphony Presents: Pokey LaFarge
DESCRIPTION:This will be a rare evening with one of America’s most distinctive roots music voices. Pokey LaFarge brings a series of exclusive solo performances to the East Coast this August\, with Cape Cod as one of a select few stops. Join us for a special performance at Falmouth Academy’s Hermann Theater at the Simon Center for the Arts—an intimate listening room designed for experiencing live music up close. \nA unique blend of Americana\, early jazz\, ragtime\, country blues\, and rock and roll\, Pokey’s music feels both timeless and completely alive. His performances draw from the deep roots of American music while carving out a sound entirely his own\, balancing vintage influence with a modern edge. \nFor these special solo shows\, Pokey strips it all back to voice\, guitar\, and storytelling\, offering an up-close reimagining of songs from his nine-album catalog alongside fresh interpretations of gospel\, rock and roll\, and country classics. \nCome hear an artist at the height of his craft\, alone on stage\, connecting with the audience in a setting designed for deep listening. \nWhether you’re a longtime fan or discovering Pokey for the first time\, this is a one-night-only chance to experience one of the most compelling performers in Americana. \nPresented in collaboration with MVY Radio and supported by Cape & Coast Bank and The Cape Cod Foundation through the Falmouth Fund\, this evening reflects a shared commitment to bringing high-quality live music experiences to the region. \nThis is a limited capacity performance. Early purchase is strongly recommended. Secure your tickets today!
