DESCRIPTION:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod.\nEXHIBIT: May 23 to June 21\, 2026\nOPENING RECEPTION: May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nOutside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod. Artists such as Joerg Dressler\, Beth Faherty\, Fran O’Neill\, and Paul Rizzo\, among many other skilled creatives\, will showcase their work at Cotuit Center for the Arts from May 23 to June 21\, 2026\, with an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nThe Outside Straight Lines biennial exhibit arose out of concern that much of LGBTQ+ art across the Cape has been unintentionally segregated to Provincetown\, often forcing those showing their work outside of this Queer Mecca into self-censorship throughout other venues of the Cape. In a time of book banning of LGBTQ+ literature\, erasures of crosswalks\, and blatant attacks on trans rights\, this showcase has acted as an affirmation of collective LGBTQ+ expression. With support from the Mid-Cape Cultural Council\, GSAs across Cape high schools have been invited to view this powerful exhibit. \nAccording to curator David Cravenho\, “I am impressed by our LGBTQ+ Community for its strength and resilience. Growing up queer as a child and navigating life through the lens of a straight world is quite the feat.” This exhibit not only hosts 13 Queer artists in a single space but also celebrates the vast diversity of our Queer Cape Cod community–from the expressionist figure to the realistic Cape Cod landscape. DESCRIPTION:No prior experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to have fun! \nStep into the mesmerizing world of molten glass in this hands-on flameworking workshop! \nStudents will be introduced to the fundamentals of working with soft glass—learning how it softens\, flows\, and transforms in the flame. \nGuided step by step\, you’ll create your own unique glass beads using a metal mandrel while discovering essential techniques like pulling delicate stringers\, adding colorful dots\, and experimenting with surface textures. \nThis class is all about exploration and creativity\, watching solid glass come alive as it melts\, twists\, and takes shape right before your eyes.\nWhether you’re drawn to bold patterns or subtle designs\, you’ll have the freedom to play\, experiment\, and develop your own style. Along the way\, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the material and the magic behind the process.  \nSafety & What to Expect: This class will be held at our Hyannis HyArts Campus Flameworks Studio.\nWorking with molten glass is exciting\, but it does require a few important safety precautions.\nFor your protection\, all participants must wear 100% cotton or linen clothing (synthetic fabrics are not allowed)\, along with closed-toe shoes. If you have long hair\, please be sure to tie it back securely before class.\nPlease note that all glass pieces created during the workshop must cool slowly in a kiln overnight to ensure durability and prevent cracking. Artists such as Joerg Dressler\, Beth Faherty\, Fran O’Neill\, and Paul Rizzo\, among many other skilled creatives\, will showcase their work at Cotuit Center for the Arts from May 23 to June 21\, 2026\, with an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nThe Outside Straight Lines biennial exhibit arose out of concern that much of LGBTQ+ art across the Cape has been unintentionally segregated to Provincetown\, often forcing those showing their work outside of this Queer Mecca into self-censorship throughout other venues of the Cape. In a time of book banning of LGBTQ+ literature\, erasures of crosswalks\, and blatant attacks on trans rights\, this showcase has acted as an affirmation of collective LGBTQ+ expression. With support from the Mid-Cape Cultural Council\, GSAs across Cape high schools have been invited to view this powerful exhibit. \nAccording to curator David Cravenho\, “I am impressed by our LGBTQ+ Community for its strength and resilience. Growing up queer as a child and navigating life through the lens of a straight world is quite the feat.” This exhibit not only hosts 13 Queer artists in a single space but also celebrates the vast diversity of our Queer Cape Cod community–from the expressionist figure to the realistic Cape Cod landscape. Cape Cod Maritime Museum’s Collections and Exhibits Manager\, SAMANTHA NOTICK\, explores the stories of five lost lighthouses on Cape Cod.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJune 15: Defiant Brides: The Untold Story of Two Revolutionary-Era Women and the Radical Men They Ma\n\nEsteemed biographer NANCY RUBIN STUART reveals a closer look at Peggy Shippen Arnold\, celebrated belle of Philadelphia and wife of Benedict Arnold\, and Lucy Flucker Knox\, wife of Henry Knox. Both wealthy Revolutionary era teenagers defy their parents and marry political radicals; one becomes a spy and the other an ardent patriot. Book signing by the author and dessert reception follows.   \n  \n\n\n\nJune 22: Reflections of My Time. SAM BARBER\n\nCape Cod Artist relates the story of his life through his paintings. Dessert reception and book signing by the author.  \n   \n\n\n\nJune 29: Breaking Ice and Breaking Glass\, Leading in Uncharted Waters\n\nVice Admiral (Retired) SANDY STOSZ spent 36 years serving our Nation as a Coast Guard cutterman and 12 years at sea\, including deployment on icebreakers in the Arctic and Antarctic. She commanded two ships. Her talk will spotlight the US Coast Guard and lessons learned.  \n   \n\n\n\nJuly 6: A Sticky Piece of Massachusetts History\n\nRetired Elementary Educator and Author NANCY FRANKS turns the clock back to 1919 Boston\, before\, during\, and after two million gallons of molasses were poured into the North End.  \nPresentation followed by a molasses-themed raffle.  \n  \n\n\n\nJuly 13: The Wreck of the Mentor\, A True Story of Death\, Despair\, and Deliverance in the Age of S\n\nBest-selling author ERIC JAY DOLIN tells the powerful story of survival during a time when maritime ambition collided with local sovereignty and when the outcome of one voyage rippled across oceans and empires.  Followed by a book signing and dessert reception.  \n  \n\n\n\nJuly 20: The Killer and Frank Lloyd Wright\, The True Story of Mass Murder in Paradise\n\nBest-selling author CASEY SHERMAN recounts the murder of architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s lover. Terry’s son Richard Hanchett will join Curran in this talk. Two of the ships lost were owned by Cape Codder\, and two of the captains involved hailed from the Cape \n\n\n\nAugust 24: In Deep Water\, A True Story of Sharks\, Survival\, and Courage\n\nBest-selling author MICHAEL TOUGIAS\, known for his riveting\, character-driven accounts of survival and rescue\, returns with another true tale that will put the audience on the edge of their seats. When the boat sinks 12 miles out in the Gulf of America\, three friends must survive 28 hours in open water\, facing eight-foot waves\, jellyfish stings\, hypothermia\, and circling sharks. LENNY MIELE\, featured speaker in the documentary and the author of Voice of the Tide\, and KAREN OLCOTT\, co-producer of the film\, discuss.  \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeptember 7: LABOR DAY\n\n\nTuesday\, September 8: John Adams\, Moments from My Life\n\nSTEVE FLACK stars in a highly entertaining\, interactive depiction of the persona of John Adams\, with a modern slant\, comparing his trials and tribulations to those of modern-day Americans. \n  \n\n\n\nSeptember 14: Photographing the Kennedys\n\nRetired Cape Cod photographer STEVE HEASLIP describes 40 years of photographing the Cape’s most famous political family. \n  \n\n\n\nSeptember 21: First Ladies\n\nRetired educator NANCY FRANKS introduces the audience to nine of America’s first ladies with ties to Massachusetts -Martha Washington\, Abigail Adams\, Louisa Adams\, Frances Cleveland\, Florence Harding\, Jackie Kennedy\, Nancy Reagan\, Barbara Bush\, and Hillary Clinton.  \nFollowed by a patriotic-themed raffle. \n\n\n\nSeptember 28: The Faces of the American Revolution\, Portraits by John Singleton Copley\n\nLocal art historian MARY WOODWARD will present an illustrated talk about the finest portrait painter in Colonial America. DESCRIPTION:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod.\nEXHIBIT: May 23 to June 21\, 2026\nOPENING RECEPTION: May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nOutside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod. Artists such as Joerg Dressler\, Beth Faherty\, Fran O’Neill\, and Paul Rizzo\, among many other skilled creatives\, will showcase their work at Cotuit Center for the Arts from May 23 to June 21\, 2026\, with an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nThe Outside Straight Lines biennial exhibit arose out of concern that much of LGBTQ+ art across the Cape has been unintentionally segregated to Provincetown\, often forcing those showing their work outside of this Queer Mecca into self-censorship throughout other venues of the Cape. In a time of book banning of LGBTQ+ literature\, erasures of crosswalks\, and blatant attacks on trans rights\, this showcase has acted as an affirmation of collective LGBTQ+ expression. With support from the Mid-Cape Cultural Council\, GSAs across Cape high schools have been invited to view this powerful exhibit. \nAccording to curator David Cravenho\, “I am impressed by our LGBTQ+ Community for its strength and resilience. Growing up queer as a child and navigating life through the lens of a straight world is quite the feat.” This exhibit not only hosts 13 Queer artists in a single space but also celebrates the vast diversity of our Queer Cape Cod community–from the expressionist figure to the realistic Cape Cod landscape.
