SUMMARY:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ Artists on the Cape
DESCRIPTION:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod.\nEXHIBIT: May 23 to June 21\, 2026\nOPENING RECEPTION: May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nOutside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod. Artists such as Joerg Dressler\, Beth Faherty\, Fran O’Neill\, and Paul Rizzo\, among many other skilled creatives\, will showcase their work at Cotuit Center for the Arts from May 23 to June 21\, 2026\, with an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nThe Outside Straight Lines biennial exhibit arose out of concern that much of LGBTQ+ art across the Cape has been unintentionally segregated to Provincetown\, often forcing those showing their work outside of this Queer Mecca into self-censorship throughout other venues of the Cape. In a time of book banning of LGBTQ+ literature\, erasures of crosswalks\, and blatant attacks on trans rights\, this showcase has acted as an affirmation of collective LGBTQ+ expression. With support from the Mid-Cape Cultural Council\, GSAs across Cape high schools have been invited to view this powerful exhibit. \nAccording to curator David Cravenho\, “I am impressed by our LGBTQ+ Community for its strength and resilience. Growing up queer as a child and navigating life through the lens of a straight world is quite the feat.” This exhibit not only hosts 13 Queer artists in a single space but also celebrates the vast diversity of our Queer Cape Cod community–from the expressionist figure to the realistic Cape Cod landscape. SUMMARY:Cape Cod Pottery Trail: A Celebration of Ceramic Art on the Upper Cape
DESCRIPTION:The Cape Cod Pottery Trail returns the last weekend of September. The kickoff reception is Friday\, September 25th\, 2026\, at Brick Kiln Farm followed by a weekend of studio tours and activities.  This is a must see event showcasing our local pottery community! \nThe  Cape Cod Pottery Trail\, a unique self-guided tour of artists’ studios showcasing the vibrant ceramic arts community of the Upper Cape\, will take place Saturday\, September 26 and Sunday\, September 27\, 2026\, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. \nCeramic artists across several locations will open their studios to the public for an immersive weekend of creativity\, craftsmanship and community. The Cape Cod Pottery Trail spans several Upper Cape villages\, including Falmouth\, Bourne\, Cataumet\, Cotuit\, Falmouth\, Marstons Mills\, Pocasset and Sagamore. Visitors will be able to explore artists’ private studios\, many of which will be open to the public for the first time this weekend. DESCRIPTION:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod.\nEXHIBIT: May 23 to June 21\, 2026\nOPENING RECEPTION: May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nOutside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod. Artists such as Joerg Dressler\, Beth Faherty\, Fran O’Neill\, and Paul Rizzo\, among many other skilled creatives\, will showcase their work at Cotuit Center for the Arts from May 23 to June 21\, 2026\, with an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nThe Outside Straight Lines biennial exhibit arose out of concern that much of LGBTQ+ art across the Cape has been unintentionally segregated to Provincetown\, often forcing those showing their work outside of this Queer Mecca into self-censorship throughout other venues of the Cape. In a time of book banning of LGBTQ+ literature\, erasures of crosswalks\, and blatant attacks on trans rights\, this showcase has acted as an affirmation of collective LGBTQ+ expression. With support from the Mid-Cape Cultural Council\, GSAs across Cape high schools have been invited to view this powerful exhibit. \nAccording to curator David Cravenho\, “I am impressed by our LGBTQ+ Community for its strength and resilience. Growing up queer as a child and navigating life through the lens of a straight world is quite the feat.” This exhibit not only hosts 13 Queer artists in a single space but also celebrates the vast diversity of our Queer Cape Cod community–from the expressionist figure to the realistic Cape Cod landscape. She commanded two ships. Wright’s turbulent private life captivated a nation – a stormy marriage and an infamous affair which ended in tragic horror. Sherman’s book is soon to be a major motion picture starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Wine reception\, book signing to follow.  \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJuly 27: Paul Revere- The Midnight Ride and More\n\nIn the spirit of the American Revolution’s anniversary\, actor Michael LePage portrays Paul Revere\, reflecting on his very active life\, culminating in his Midnight Ride.  \n    \n\n\n\nAugust 3: The Lady in the Dunes\n\nEmmy and Murrow award-winning investigative journalist KATHY CURRAN details how a formerly unidentified murder victim found in July 1974 in the Race Point Dunes was identified through DNA as Ruth Marie Terry and the clues linking the death to her murderer. Terry’s son Richard Hanchett will join Curran in this talk. Dessert reception to follow.  \n  \n\n\n\nAugust 10: Greetings From Bunker Hill.\n\nEmmy award-winning Chronicle reporter TED REINSTEIN returns with facts and folklore for the 250th. Book signing and dessert reception follow. \n     \n\n\n\nAugust 17: Long Before the Titanic\n\nAssociate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society VINCENT MILES explains that the first transatlantic steamships were experimental and suffered many losses. Two of the ships lost were owned by Cape Codder\, and two of the captains involved hailed from the Cape \n\n\n\nAugust 24: In Deep Water\, A True Story of Sharks\, Survival\, and Courage\n\nBest-selling author MICHAEL TOUGIAS\, known for his riveting\, character-driven accounts of survival and rescue\, returns with another true tale that will put the audience on the edge of their seats. When the boat sinks 12 miles out in the Gulf of America\, three friends must survive 28 hours in open water\, facing eight-foot waves\, jellyfish stings\, hypothermia\, and circling sharks. LENNY MIELE\, featured speaker in the documentary and the author of Voice of the Tide\, and KAREN OLCOTT\, co-producer of the film\, discuss.  \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeptember 7: LABOR DAY\n\n\nTuesday\, September 8: John Adams\, Moments from My Life\n\nSTEVE FLACK stars in a highly entertaining\, interactive depiction of the persona of John Adams\, with a modern slant\, comparing his trials and tribulations to those of modern-day Americans. \n  \n\n\n\nSeptember 14: Photographing the Kennedys\n\nRetired Cape Cod photographer STEVE HEASLIP describes 40 years of photographing the Cape’s most famous political family. \n  \n\n\n\nSeptember 21: First Ladies\n\nRetired educator NANCY FRANKS introduces the audience to nine of America’s first ladies with ties to Massachusetts -Martha Washington\, Abigail Adams\, Louisa Adams\, Frances Cleveland\, Florence Harding\, Jackie Kennedy\, Nancy Reagan\, Barbara Bush\, and Hillary Clinton.  \nFollowed by a patriotic-themed raffle. \n\n\n\nSeptember 28: The Faces of the American Revolution\, Portraits by John Singleton Copley\n\nLocal art historian MARY WOODWARD will present an illustrated talk about the finest portrait painter in Colonial America. DESCRIPTION:IN THE GALLERY DURING MUSEUM HOURS\, September through October 31\, 2026\nNaturescape Gallery at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History presents “Cartographies of Arctic Change” by Greg Fiske\, Director of Geospatial Technology at Woodwell Climate Research Center in Woods Hole\, September through October 2026\, during Museum hours. \nMaps are essential to telling the story of our changing world. Cartographer Greg Fiske combines science and art to create some of the most spectacular images of our home\, planet Earth. In this medium of cartography\, Greg’s work gives a birds-eye view of our world that bridges the gap between facts and emotions\, not only helping the general public to understand complex information about the impact of climate change but also assist climate scientists with the crucial visual information to address ways to combat it. \nIn his time at the Woodwell Climate Center\, Fiske and his colleague Christina Shintani\, have worked on maps detailing forest carbon in the United States\, global drought forecasts\, fire detections in the Amazon Rainforest\, and Arctic communities located on permafrost ground. \nAccording to Fiske\, “cartography isn’t one profession\, it’s a collection of professions”. A modern cartographer is a data analyst\, a statistician\, a designer\, a programmer\, a storyteller\, all rolled into one. Skills from each profession\, and a healthy curiosity about a hundred other subjects\, are required to create maps that are informative\, attention-grabbing\, and intuitive to read. \nFiske began his journey into cartography via the world of computer coding through his high school computer lab. With the guidance from mentors\, Greg later picked up other skills\, first learning how to apply coding to geospatial data and then how to display that data visually\, and as you will see in his Naturescape Gallery exhibit\, make it beautiful and attention-grabbing. \nImage Attached: \nRiver Art. This image shows elevation data from the ArcticDEM project (NGA-NSF) for the Lena River delta region of north-central Siberia. The variations in pink shades indicate how water has changed the landscape through time. \n*On Saturday\, October 17th at 1pm join Greg Fiske for his program\, “Putting Science on the Map”\, an exploration of commonly used tools and techniques for making beautiful maps\, as well as the challenges\, success stories and failures\, faced in nearly two and half decades of making maps for Woods Hole scientists.

In a time of book banning of LGBTQ+ literature\, erasures of crosswalks\, and blatant attacks on trans rights\, this showcase has acted as an affirmation of collective LGBTQ+ expression. With support from the Mid-Cape Cultural Council\, GSAs across Cape high schools have been invited to view this powerful exhibit. \nAccording to curator David Cravenho\, “I am impressed by our LGBTQ+ Community for its strength and resilience. Growing up queer as a child and navigating life through the lens of a straight world is quite the feat.” This exhibit not only hosts 13 Queer artists in a single space but also celebrates the vast diversity of our Queer Cape Cod community–from the expressionist figure to the realistic Cape Cod landscape. The volunteer project might include trail maintenance\, invasive plant removal\, pollinator garden weeding\, and something related. This program is supported in part by the Cape and Islands United Way. Note: Registration is required for each individual First Friday project. Volunteers should be prepared for physical activity including lifting\, kneeling\, digging\, and cutting brush. BYO water\, work gloves\, and wear pants and closed-toe shoes. Training will be provided. Limited tools will be provided. If you prefer to bring your own – shovels\, loppers\, hand saws\, and/or rakes are recommended. DESCRIPTION:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod.\nEXHIBIT: May 23 to June 21\, 2026\nOPENING RECEPTION: May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nOutside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod. Artists such as Joerg Dressler\, Beth Faherty\, Fran O’Neill\, and Paul Rizzo\, among many other skilled creatives\, will showcase their work at Cotuit Center for the Arts from May 23 to June 21\, 2026\, with an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nThe Outside Straight Lines biennial exhibit arose out of concern that much of LGBTQ+ art across the Cape has been unintentionally segregated to Provincetown\, often forcing those showing their work outside of this Queer Mecca into self-censorship throughout other venues of the Cape. In a time of book banning of LGBTQ+ literature\, erasures of crosswalks\, and blatant attacks on trans rights\, this showcase has acted as an affirmation of collective LGBTQ+ expression. With support from the Mid-Cape Cultural Council\, GSAs across Cape high schools have been invited to view this powerful exhibit. \nAccording to curator David Cravenho\, “I am impressed by our LGBTQ+ Community for its strength and resilience. Growing up queer as a child and navigating life through the lens of a straight world is quite the feat.” This exhibit not only hosts 13 Queer artists in a single space but also celebrates the vast diversity of our Queer Cape Cod community–from the expressionist figure to the realistic Cape Cod landscape.
