SUMMARY:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ Artists on the Cape
DESCRIPTION:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod.\nEXHIBIT: May 23 to June 21\, 2026\nOPENING RECEPTION: May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nOutside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod. Artists such as Joerg Dressler\, Beth Faherty\, Fran O’Neill\, and Paul Rizzo\, among many other skilled creatives\, will showcase their work at Cotuit Center for the Arts from May 23 to June 21\, 2026\, with an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nThe Outside Straight Lines biennial exhibit arose out of concern that much of LGBTQ+ art across the Cape has been unintentionally segregated to Provincetown\, often forcing those showing their work outside of this Queer Mecca into self-censorship throughout other venues of the Cape. In a time of book banning of LGBTQ+ literature\, erasures of crosswalks\, and blatant attacks on trans rights\, this showcase has acted as an affirmation of collective LGBTQ+ expression. With support from the Mid-Cape Cultural Council\, GSAs across Cape high schools have been invited to view this powerful exhibit. \nAccording to curator David Cravenho\, “I am impressed by our LGBTQ+ Community for its strength and resilience. Growing up queer as a child and navigating life through the lens of a straight world is quite the feat.” This exhibit not only hosts 13 Queer artists in a single space but also celebrates the vast diversity of our Queer Cape Cod community–from the expressionist figure to the realistic Cape Cod landscape. Cravenho believes strongly in art’s ability to armor oneself: “Becoming an adult as an artist and putting on your survival mechanism to express your power through your work is a gift from beyond ourselves.” \nJoin artists for an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3-5pm\, or drop by Cotuit Center for the Arts between May 23 and June 21\, 2026 during visiting times to view this powerful visual collection of LGBTQ+ voices. \nMark Adams \nJoerg Dressler \nBeth Faherty \nKenneth Hawkey \nMegan Hinton \nPete Hocking \nMarc Kundmann \nFran O’Neill \nPaul Rizzo \nChristopher Sousa \nAlan Trugman \nForrest Williams \nLaurence Young \nSponsored by the Mass Cultural Council and the Mid-Cape Cultural Council

Carr\, host of the largest syndicated talk radio show in New England\, will bring his unmistakable blend of outspoken passion and confrontational conservative politics to the Hyannis Arts Hall. The hall continues as an emerging hub for music\, theater and film in the Historic East End of Hyannis\, located at 81 Willow Avenue\, across from the former Plymouth & Brockton bus terminal.\nHowie Carr is one of the most potent local hosts in talk radio today\, bringing an extremely loyal and active listenership. ~ Michael Harrison\, Talkers Magazine \nIn 2015\, Howie Carr launched The Howie Carr Radio Network\, the first host-owned radio network in New England. Carr quickly grew his network from a few stations in Massachusetts to more than 20 terrestrial radio stations across New England. The Howie Carr Radio Network is the only radio network reaching a majority of the 14 million people living in New England. Carr has authored numerous books\, including the bestselling The Brothers Bulger\, Hitman\, and other works focused on Boston’s underworld and political corruption. Copies of some titles will be available for sale at his appearance. \nDoors will open 30 minutes before the 4 pm talk\, with seating on a first come first served basis except for contributor ticket holders\, who will be seated in front rows. Beverages\, and snacks will be available for purchase. Tickets can be purchased at eventbrite.com for $35 general admission including fees; $100 for contributing tickets. Hyannis Arts & Film is devoted to bringing the performing arts and cultural events to Hyannis and Cape Cod\, with an additional mission to boost the local economy. Hyannis Arts Hall may also be rented for events. \nFind Hyannis Arts Hall at 81 Willow Avenue across from Centerville Dry Cleaners\, footsteps down the gated walkway alongside the Federated Church of Hyannis\, at 320 Main Street.
