DESCRIPTION:YOUNG WRITERS PROGRAM (FREE) \nHyannis Arts Hall \nApril 22-24\, 9am-12pm \nRegistration is now open for students to apply to the Cape Cod Writers Center’s Young Writers Program at Hyannis Arts Hall\, 81 Willow Avenue\, Hyannis\, MA 02601. This free\, long-standing program runs from 9:00 AM to noon from Wednesday\, April 22 through Friday\, April 24. \nThis year’s three-morning workshop takes place during the April vacation week and welcomes young writers of poetry or prose in grades 8-12. The program fosters a cooperative and supportive environment to help students build confidence and develop their unique voices in writing. Their instructor is author Reade Scott Whinnem\, who has been teaching media and English since 1997 at the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. \nStudents must complete the Young Writers Program application before they can be accepted. Parents and guardians should sign the application for students under the age of 18. The application deadline is Monday\, April 15. \nParents are invited to hear their teenagers read from their work on Friday\, April 24 at 11 AM.

Whether from direct contact with my garden or the woods surrounding it\, a glimpse of roadside scene or even the memory of a dream\, the urge is the same: to capture that plant-action. I see personalities\, communication\, or simply grace\, dignity and wisdom. To satisfy my curiosity and capture these qualities\, I wait for the painting to tell me what it wants and allow my participation in the gestures of the natural world. \nKatherine Nora has lived on Cape Cod for most of her life and shown her work here for decades. She is known for depicting the natural world with bold colors and strong brush strokes. And if you are in Orleans having a coffee at the Hot Chocolate Sparrow\, look towards the CVS building and you will see the incredible “Depot Mural” that depicts the “Yesterday-Year Railroad Station” by artists Katherine Nora and Dan Joy. It would have been the survivors who told the story of a great flood and passed down how they were descended from those who endured it. That part\, at least\, is real. \nThe oldest surviving written story\, The Epic of Gilgamesh\, dating back to ancient Sumer\, also contains a flood account. It includes a celestial warning to build a boat\, instructions to bring animals aboard\, and even the sending of a dove to see if the waters had receded. This free\, long-standing program runs from 9:00 AM to noon from Wednesday\, April 22 through Friday\, April 24. \nThis year’s three-morning workshop takes place during the April vacation week and welcomes young writers of poetry or prose in grades 8-12. The program fosters a cooperative and supportive environment to help students build confidence and develop their unique voices in writing. Their instructor is author Reade Scott Whinnem\, who has been teaching media and English since 1997 at the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. \nStudents must complete the Young Writers Program application before they can be accepted. Parents and guardians should sign the application for students under the age of 18. The application deadline is Monday\, April 15. \nParents are invited to hear their teenagers read from their work on Friday\, April 24 at 11 AM.

I see personalities\, communication\, or simply grace\, dignity and wisdom. To satisfy my curiosity and capture these qualities\, I wait for the painting to tell me what it wants and allow my participation in the gestures of the natural world. \nKatherine Nora has lived on Cape Cod for most of her life and shown her work here for decades. She is known for depicting the natural world with bold colors and strong brush strokes. And if you are in Orleans having a coffee at the Hot Chocolate Sparrow\, look towards the CVS building and you will see the incredible “Depot Mural” that depicts the “Yesterday-Year Railroad Station” by artists Katherine Nora and Dan Joy. DESCRIPTION:4th Friday Poets\n\n\n \n \nBass River – Saben Board Room\n\n\n \n \nOngoing (mostly) 4th Fridays\, 2:00pm – 3:30pm.\n\n\n\n\nPoets of all ages and experience are welcome to this monthly group workshop. Poets will each bring a new or revised older poem and read aloud. The group will offer reaction and commentary\, with the option to pass. Guidelines for the group are simple: as writers we seek confidentiality and accuracy in lieu of harsh critique or false kindness in a safe environment that values thoughtful engagement.\nFacilitated by poet Bill Holcombe. Come on in — the water’s fine!\n\nThis workshop is free to members of the Cultural Center\, and $10 per session for non-members. If you are not already a member\, click here to join!\nRegistration is required — space is limited! If you don’t register\, a seat is not guaranteed.
