DESCRIPTION:Ongoing \nThursdays 11:30am-12:30pm \n$15 \nDrumming Through Trauma with Sam Holmstock (formerly of ENTRAIN) explores drumming\, rhythm\, and percussion in a fun environment accessible to all\, including anyone with PTSD\, Brain Injury\, the elderly\, and those living with mental illness or neurological conditions. It is very effective to reduce stress\, improve mind-body connection\, and increase mindfulness. You do NOT have to be suffering with trauma to join this class. \nAlthough some drum technique is taught\, the focus is on the development of communication and relaxation. We start with simple easy-to-play rhythms\, one rhythm at a time until we reach the point where we can have half the group play one rhythm with another rhythm played on top of the first one to create a web of interlocking rhythms. \nIt’s an opportunity to get to know some easy basic rhythms and just enjoy the time. Participants of all ages describe feeling “calm and centered” after drumming. \nWHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? Basically it’s a circle of people\, socially distanced\, all with drums\, outside if the weather is fine\, inside the Art Studio otherwise. \nSpaces are limited and participants must register. I see personalities\, communication\, or simply grace\, dignity and wisdom. To satisfy my curiosity and capture these qualities\, I wait for the painting to tell me what it wants and allow my participation in the gestures of the natural world. \nKatherine Nora has lived on Cape Cod for most of her life and shown her work here for decades. She is known for depicting the natural world with bold colors and strong brush strokes. And if you are in Orleans having a coffee at the Hot Chocolate Sparrow\, look towards the CVS building and you will see the incredible “Depot Mural” that depicts the “Yesterday-Year Railroad Station” by artists Katherine Nora and Dan Joy. DESCRIPTION:DREAM BIG!   \nWinter Art 2026 \nAn Open-Juried Exhibition in the Galleries \n Cotuit Center for the Arts \nJanuary 10 -February 22\, 2026 \nWednesdays\, Thursdays\, Fridays 10:00AM – 4:00PM                                           Saturdays\, 12:00PM – 4:00PM \nOpening Reception: Saturday\, January 17th\,2026\,  3:00pm-5:00pm \nOur annual family friendly exhibition is back\, this year with the focus on BIG ideas\, BIG aspirations and BIG ART! \nWith younger arts patrons in mind\, artwork for the show is displayed at a height of 4 feet throughout the exhibit – right at children’s eye level. \nThe annual exhibit is the brainchild of frequent guest curator Margaret Van Sciver\, who noticed that her own children were only looking at the bottom half of artwork when visiting museums and hoped to give all young visitors a greater experience viewing art. \nStay tuned for news about exhibit related events and opportunities for guided tours
