SUMMARY:Art Talk: Subject Matter in Art History with Sue Altman
DESCRIPTION:Trace the evolution of artistic subjects from ancient narratives to modern portraits\, exploring how artists from Rembrandt to Warhol have defined what we see and why. \nChoosing a subject is one of the first decisions an artist makes. This lecture will look at the many subjects artists have chosen throughout history and how they have changed and evolved. We will look at the narratives of the ancient Near East\, the still lifes of the Dutch Baroque\, the landscapes of the Hudson River School\, and portraits of artists as varied as Rembrandt\, Van Eyck\, and Warhol\, among many others. \nCCMoA Docent Suzanne Altman is an art educator and art historian who has presented art and art history programs throughout New York\, New Jersey\, and Cape Cod for both adult and teenage audiences. Sue is a painter who works out of her in-home studio in South Yarmouth. See her work at www.suealtmanart.com or on Instagram @artworkshudson

SUMMARY:The Accidental Masterpiece (Intermediate to Advanced) CLASS with Ed Chesnovitch
DESCRIPTION:Being open to trying new techniques and taking risks keeps things fresh and exciting. Ed Chesnovitch concentrates on the importance of Design\, Value\, Color\, and Rhythm to make students’ art stronger with their personal voice. \nA good painting always needs a few things from the painter: Be Passionate\, Be Fearless\, and Trust the Process!\nBeing open to trying new techniques and taking risks\, keeps things fresh and exciting. In this class\, we’ll concentrate on the importance of Design\, Value\, Color\, and Rhythm to make your art stronger with your personal voice! \nLearn to simplify and get the bones of your painting down first\, without wasting time in the beginning with unnecessary details… “ya don’t put up the curtains till the house is built”! Discover the importance of building up a surface history in your paintings\, how “taking off” is just as important as “putting on”\, as well as the magnificence of mark-making. \nWeekly exercises will definitely get you out of your comfort zone and give you permission to play\, explore\, and throw the concept of perfection out the back door! Get ready to paint and have some fun\, because you never know when the next accidental masterpiece will come to fruition.
