The volunteer project might include trail maintenance\, invasive plant removal\, pollinator garden weeding\, and something related. This program is supported in part by the Cape and Islands United Way. Note: Registration is required for each individual First Friday project. Volunteers should be prepared for physical activity including lifting\, kneeling\, digging\, and cutting brush. BYO water\, work gloves\, and wear pants and closed-toe shoes. Training will be provided. Limited tools will be provided. If you prefer to bring your own – shovels\, loppers\, hand saws\, and/or rakes are recommended. DESCRIPTION:PRESENTATION and Q&A\nWednesday\, March 11\, 2026\, 1:00pm\nCape Cod Museum of Natural History \nOnce a ‘pest’\, now an icon\, the importance of Cape Cod’s horseshoe crabs is being revealed in a Silver Science presentation at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History on Wednesday\, March 11\, at 1:00pm. \nMaureen Ward\, the Museum’s Horseshoe Crab Aquaculture and Nursery program lead\, will take the audience through how the 450-million-year-old ‘living fossil’ has become an invaluable resource for species both below and above the water. \n“There’s a surprising number of coastal and marine animals living along our shorelines\, in our water habitats\, and flying overhead that have come to depend on horseshoe crabs as a food resource\,” Maureen said. “We’ll also be talking about how they enrich the seafloor and expand biodiversity.” \nFollowing the presentation there will be a Q&A session with opportunities to view live juvenile horseshoe crabs and receive updates on MA legislation proposing to ban the taking of the species for bait and MA Division of Marine Fisheries proposals to change quotas for bait and biomedical harvest. \n2026 marks the 10th anniversary of the Museum’s Horseshoe Carb Aquaculture and Nursery Education Program\, which promotes stewardship\, advocacy and education. Our International Horseshoe Crab Day Celebration is one of the museum’s most popular annual events with hundreds of people coming for special exhibits every June 19th. \nSilver Science is a series of presentations by leading figures across a range of disciplines\, with discounted tickets for those aged 60+. She began getting to know wild plants while earning her BS in Biology at Marietta College in OH\, and continued botanizing during grad school at SUNY-ESF in Syracuse\, where she earned MS and PhD degrees in Plant Science. A long-time visitor to Cape Cod\, she moved here permanently on her retirement. \nGardening for Life is an annual series at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History that brings experts across a range of fields to speak to hobbyists and professionals. DESCRIPTION:Plushy Pals get “wild” with Barnstable Land Trust during February School Vacation \nWHAT: Nature Superstars Stuffy Sleepover \nWHEN:\nDrop-off: Tuesday\, February 17 10:30 am – 11:30 am at BLT headquarters with special one hour program!\nPick-up: Wednesday\, February 18 10:00 am – 12:00 pm/Noon \nWHAT: Calling all stuffed animals to BLT’s Nature Superstars Stuffy Sleepover! \n“Stuffies” of all kinds are invited to explore their ‘wild’ side and become a Nature Superstar during February School Vacation Week as they join Barnstable Land Trust and friends to explore the great outdoors (and indoors!). \nHumans of all ages are invited to drop off their plushy pals during a special registration event at 10:30 am on Tuesday\, February 17\, at BLT’s headquarters for a tree-mendous themed hour including crafts\, tree yoga\, and more with Nature Superstar\, Ms. Hannah from the Town of Barnstable’s Greening Hyannis initiative. Human friends then leave their stuffed animals with BLT’s camp counselors as their nature adventures begin. Stuffed Animals will delight in field trips to explore nature books at the local library\, learn about shell fishing and beach clean-ups\, get an inside (outside) look at the Sandy Neck Beach parking project\, enjoy a private meet-and-greet with a local naturalist/author\, and more. Their overnight adventure (limited to stuffed animals) will include snuggling in sleeping bags\, gathering round the campfire\, and star gazing. \nHuman ‘parents’ can pick-up their stuffed animal friends the next day on Wednesday\, February 18\, from 10-12 pm at BLT headquarters (aka Stuffy Sleepover Campground). \nFor an example of last year’s first ‘Stuffy Sleepover\,’ you can view the entertaining video recap on BLT’s You Tube channel HERE. \nWHERE: Barnstable Land Trust\, 1540 Main Street\, W.
