One of the finest big bands in the world today\, the Jazz Ambassadors of Washington\, DC\, tours thousands\nof miles each year to promote patriotism and good will for the U.S. Army through free public concerts. \nConcerts by the Jazz Ambassadors are programmed to entertain all types of audiences.\nThe band’s diverse repertoire includes big band swing\, bebop\, Latin\, contemporary jazz\, standards\, popular tunes\,\nDixieland\, vocals\, and patriotic selections\, many of which are written or arranged by members of the Jazz\nAmbassadors. \nThe Jazz Ambassadors has appeared in all 50 states\, Canada\, Mexico\, Japan\, India\, and\nthroughout Europe. The Jazz Ambassadors’s rigorous\ntouring schedule and reputation for excellence has earned it the title “America’s Big Band.” \nA highly competitive audition process draws candidates from leading conservatories\, universities\, and the\nprofessional ranks. Many members of the Jazz Ambassadors have extensive civilian performance\nexperience. Alumni have gone on to careers in university teaching\, studio recording\, and performance.\nIn 1969\, Army Field Band Commander Major Hal Gibson formed the Studio Band in response to an\nincreased demand for jazz performances. Troy’s commitment to music has spanned 30 years and includes both practical and academic accomplishments – most recently an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from the University of Limerick in Ireland. From as young as six years old\, Troy was impressing audiences with step dancing and soon after\, fiddle and piano skills. His roots-centered approach has the power to inspire audiences and comes from a family of proud Scottish heritage where fiddle playing and Gaelic traditions runs in the bloodline. His first paid gig was at 9 years old and was teaching by the age of 13 at the Gaelic College in St. Ann’s Cape Breton. Troy is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal for contributions to culture in Canada.\n~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~\nThe vibrant musical traditions of Scotland and Cape Breton take on new life in the hands of fiddler Katie McNally (“Formidable”\, The Boston Globe) and Neil Pearlman (“a tremendous pianist”\, BBC Radio Scotland). \nMcNally and Pearlman have performed as a duo for over a decade\, making their mark at legendary stages like Newport Folk Festival\, playing to buoyant festival plazas in Spain and England\, all while maintaining ties to home by leading monthly community sessions at the storied Canadian-American Club in Boston.\nBoth were 2025 Shannon Artists-in-Residence at Beinn Mhàbu in Cape Breton\, Nova Scotia.
