SUMMARY:Greater Boston Paranormal Associates presents ‘The Sea Witch: The Most Haunted Ghost Ship'
DESCRIPTION:Greater Boston Paranormal Associates presents ‘The Sea Witch: The Most Haunted Ghost Ship’ \n  \nThe USS Salem is a storied warship\, and was at one time the most powerful vessel in the United States Navy’s vaunted arsenal. She was never given the opportunity to use her massive 8′ automatic cannons in anger\, but there was plenty of misery and death aboard the Salem. She sprung into action during the earthquake outbreak of 1953 in Greece and was the largest of the medical facilities ships sent to the region from around the world. Rumor has it\, a thousand were treated over the 4 day stay…And some of those souls never left the Salem. They are still aboard\, some looking for their lost loved ones.\nPresented by Don DeCristofano and Sondra Morgan of the Greater Boston Paranormal Associates.\nLearn more in this thrilling\, edge of your seat program on Saturday January 31st at 1pm in the Main Meeting Room at the Osterville Village Library. \nFor more information or to register for this event\, please contact Amy Wolfe at awolfe@clamsnet.org or by calling the OVL directly at (508)428-5757

SUMMARY:Attract Birds to your Yard-tips & tricks with master gardener Fran Raleigh
DESCRIPTION:Bring the Cape’s most beautiful\, fascinating — and sometimes dramatic –birds to your own back yard with tips and tricks from master gardener Fran Raleigh at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History on Sunday\, March 1 at 1:00pm\, 2026. \nThe botanist\, ecologist and birder will join host Janice Donovan\, manager of the historic Shirley G Cross Wildflower Garden\, for a presentation on native plants that can attract year-round and migrating birds. Fran will also explain how helping local birdlife can reduce your own garden chores\, including having to water less\, and maintain local ecosystems. \nFran Raleigh grew up watching birds and nature in her Northern VA neighborhood. She began getting to know wild plants while earning her BS in Biology at Marietta College in OH\, and continued botanizing during grad school at SUNY-ESF in Syracuse\, where she earned MS and PhD degrees in Plant Science. A long-time visitor to Cape Cod\, she moved here permanently on her retirement. \nGardening for Life is an annual series at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History that brings experts across a range of fields to speak to hobbyists and professionals. Upcoming topics include spring preparation and the secret world of fireflies. It honors the historic Shirley G. Cross Wildflower Garden at the Green Briar Nature Center. \nPLUS\, at every event we’ll be hosting a bake sale filled with delicious treats\, with proceeds going to support the incredible work of Brewster Pollinators.

SUMMARY:Author talk with Maxwell Stearns\, Author of ‘Parliamentary America'
DESCRIPTION:This program will take place in the Main Meeting Room at the Osterville Village Library on Monday March 16th at 1pm \nFor more information or to register for this event please contact Amy Wolfe at awolfe@clamsnet.org or by calling (508)428-5757 \nAuthor talk with Maxwell Stearns\, Author of ‘Parliamentary America: The Least Radical Means of Radically Repairing Our Broken Democracy’ \nAmericans face increasingly stark choices each presidential election and a growing sense that our government can’t solve the nation’s most urgent challenges. Our eighteenth-century system is ill suited to our twenty-first-century world. Information-age technology has undermined our capacity to face common problems together and turned our democracy upside down\, with gerrymanders letting representatives choose voters rather than voters choosing them. In Parliamentary America\, Maxwell L. Stearns argues that the solution to these complex problems is a parliamentary democracy. \nStearns considers such leading alternatives as ranked choice voting\, the national popular vote\, and congressional term limits\, showing why these can’t solve our constitutional crisis. Instead\, three amendments―expanding the House of Representatives\, having House party coalitions choose the president\, and letting the House end a failing presidency based on no confidence―will produce a robust multiparty democracy. These amendments hold an essential advantage over other proposals: by leaving every member of the House and Senate as incumbents in their districts or states\, the amendments provide a pressure-release valve against reforms threatening that status. \nStearns takes readers on a world tour―England\, France\, Germany\, Israel\, Taiwan\, Brazil\, and Venezuela―showing what works in government\, what doesn’t\, and how to make the best features our own. Genuine party competition and governing coalitions\, commonplace across the globe\, may seem like a fantasy in the United States. But we can make them a reality. This rare book offers an optimistic vision\, explaining in accessible terms how to transform our troubled democracy into a thriving parliamentary America. \nThis program will take place in the Main Meeting Room at the Osterville Village Library on Monday March 16th at 1pm \nFor more information or to register for this event please contact Amy Wolfe at awolfe@clamsnet.org or by calling (508)428-5757

SUMMARY:Historic Storms of Cape Cod with Author Don Wilding
DESCRIPTION:Cape Cod has always been in the path of deadly hurricanes and ferocious storms. Unwelcome summer visitors include the “Long Island Express” Hurricane of 1938\, the Great Atlantic Hurricane of 1944\, the twin Hurricanes Carol and Edna in 1954\, and Hurricane Bob in 1991. \nThese storms destroyed countless homes and left several coastal communities under several feet of water. Surging tides carried away houses with residents inside who didn’t survive and sank the Coast Guard lightship Vineyard in Buzzards Bay\, killing all 12 crew members. Fall and winter brought the benchmark Blizzard of 1978\, the nor’easter of January 1987\, and the infamous “Perfect Storm” of October 1991 which delivered some of the highest tides ever seen on the Outer Cape. \nLocal author Don Wilding revisits the Cape’s most severe weather events and their devastating impact. \nThis program will take place in the Main Meeting Room at the Osterville Village Library on Saturday March 28th at 1pm. SUMMARY:Local Historian Paul Chesbro presents 'Old Osterville'
DESCRIPTION:Local historian and author Paul Chesbro will lead an engaging history presentation focused on the village of Osterville\, Massachusetts\, exploring its rich heritage and evolution over time. \nPaul will guide the audience through key chapters in Osterville’s development\, including the rise of its maritime legacy—highlighting the world-renowned Crosby Yacht Yard\, known for building traditional catboats and Wianno class sailboats that have become synonymous with the area’s nautical identity. \nAlong with vivid descriptions of 19th- and early 20th-century community life and industry\, Chesbro illustrates how Osterville evolved from an oyster-harvesting settlement into a cherished coastal village with deep local traditions and historical landmarks. Period photographs and anecdotes will enrich the talk\, helping attendees connect personally with the stories of the people and places that shaped the village. \nThe event offers both long-time residents and visitors a deeper appreciation for Osterville’s heritage and underscores the importance of preserving its unique historical narrative. \nFor more information or to register for this event\, please contact Amy Wolfe at awolfe@clamsnet.org or by calling the OVL directly at (508)428-5757

SUMMARY:'The Art of Cellphoneography' with David Mullen
DESCRIPTION:Explore the art of Cellphoneography with portrait and fine art photographer David Mullen!\nThe best camera is the one you have with you! And the best darkroom is the one you have with you! In this talk we’ll look at basics of good photographic composition\, then take a tour through two post-processing apps that every cellphoneographer should be using: Lightroom Mobile and Snapseed. While the images our cameras produce are properly exposed\, with good color and sharpness\, they are only the starting point of what is possible. By using free applications like Snapseed and the free version of Lightroom Mobile\, we can improve upon reality and add our own artistic voice to our images before sharing them with the world. \nFor more information or to register for this event\, please contact Amy Wolfe at awolfe@clamsnet.org or by calling the OVL directly at (508)428-5757
