SUMMARY:Collage Workshop with Annika Sarin and Payal Kumar
DESCRIPTION:Collage Workshop with Annika Sarin and Payal Kumar \nJuly 18\, 2026 \nJoin us at Belonging Books and The Cordial Eye for What Was Lost / Can Be Remembered — an immersive\, community-centered art exhibition and event series that explores the invisible links connecting us through collective memory\, ancestral inheritance\, and shared storytelling. \nAlongside the art exhibition by Annika Sarin and Payal Kumar\, the artists will facilitate a collage workshop. Annika and payal will facilitate a community collage workshop where participants are invited to bring family photographs to create their own family-history-based artworks. \nWe will explore the questions: who gets access to nostalgia? What happens when we examine the past together through personal family history? And what can we gain from facing the past collectively for a better shared future? \nThe art exhibition (July 17-Aug 7) features: \n* Annika Sarin\, a multidisciplinary artist who utilizes design as a tool for care\, change\, and community-building\, and\n* payal kumar\, a multidisciplinary cultural worker whose work is grounded in forms of folk art and [sub]cultural resistance. \nAlongside the exhibition\, on July 18\, we will host an author event and collage workshop. \nIn the morning (10 am)\, Gayatri Sethi\, educator\, cultural worker and author of Diaspora-ish\, will lead a conversation on Seeding Solidarity in Community. Amidst ongoing genocides and wars\, escalating violence against immigrants\, and the tightening fist of fascism\, many of us are falling into despair. Community conversation on how we seed solidarity and grow beyond this turbulent world we inhabit now is so important. “Diaspora-ish” will be available to purchase from Belonging Books. \nIn the afternoon (1 pm)\, Annika and payal will facilitate a community collage workshop where participants are invited to bring family photographs to create their own family-history-based artworks.

DESCRIPTION:The Drowsy Chaperone\n\n\nJuly 9 – July 26\, 2026     \nThursdays – Saturdays   7:30\nSundays – 4:00pm\nWednesday\, July 22   7:30\nSaturday\, July 25\,  2:00pm & 7:30pm\n\nCenter Circle Presale: May 28\nMember Presale: June 4\nGeneral Public On Sale: June 10 \nWinner of five Tony Awards\, including Best Book and Best Original Score\, The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Golden Age musical\, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another. \nWith the houselights down\, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding\, a bumbling best man\, a desperate theatre producer\, a not-so-bright hostess\, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs\, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone\, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight. \nTickets available at:  https://cotuit.org/shows-events

SUMMARY:HAIRSPRAY on stage at the Cape Playhouse
DESCRIPTION:HAIRSPRAY\nJuly 15 – August 8\, 2026\nMonday – Saturday  7:30pm \nWednesday – Thursday 2:00pm \nSaturday\, July 18\, 2026  2:00pm  & 7:30pm \nSaturday\, August 8\, 2026  4:00pm \n  \nThe 1950s are out\, and change is in the air! Hairspray\, winner of eight Tony Awards\, including Best Musical\, is a joyful romp through the early 1960s – a time in which traditional roles were about to clash with counter culture\, yielding a whole new way of being a community. Based on Cape Cod’s beloved John Waters’ iconic film\, Hairspray is filled to the brim with laughter\, romance and deliriously tuneful songs. \nIt’s 1962 in Baltimore\, and the lovable plus-size teen\, Tracy Turnblad\, has only one desire – to dance on the popular “Corny Collins Show.” When her dream comes true\, Tracy finds herself in a struggle for integration that pits her against the reigning Teen Queen. Full of period charm and dance that will take you back in time\, it reminds us of the power of music to change the world for the better – because\, after all\, you can’t stop the beat! \n  \nTickets available at: https://capeplayhouse.com
