The volunteer project might include trail maintenance\, invasive plant removal\, pollinator garden weeding\, and something related. This program is supported in part by the Cape and Islands United Way. Note: Registration is required for each individual First Friday project. Volunteers should be prepared for physical activity including lifting\, kneeling\, digging\, and cutting brush. BYO water\, work gloves\, and wear pants and closed-toe shoes. Training will be provided. Limited tools will be provided. If you prefer to bring your own – shovels\, loppers\, hand saws\, and/or rakes are recommended. DESCRIPTION:Youth Boat Building Workshop\nSaturdays\, February 7 – Saturday\, April 25\, 2026 \nJoin us for a hands-on workshop where middle school students work together to construct a 12-foot traditional rowing skiff from a standardized boat-building kit. \n\n\nOpen to participants in grades 6–8 \n\n\n\n\nSaturdays | 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM \n\n\nRuns for 10–12 weeks \n\n\nLed by experienced and highly talented museum volunteers \n\n\nOver those 12 weeks\, the students have the helm – building their boat under the guidance of our expert volunteers. They assemble the whole boat\, design its colors\, and pick its name\, all before taking it out on the water for its first voyage\, and rowing away with a wonderful sense of accomplishment. \nSince the Youth Boat Building program was launched in 2012\, over thirty Bevin’s skiffs have been built. Leslie came to Cape Cod when she was 10-years-old and her first solo performance was in 8th grade when she sang in front of an audience of over 400 people and received her first standing ovation. Leslie can be found performing across Cape Cod for concerts and events with the Cape Cod Jazz Trio & Quartet and has been featured at the Provincetown Jazz Festival. \nThe Cape Cod Jazz Trio (CCJT) is comprised of three of Cape Cod’s top Jazz Musicians with Fred Boyle on piano from South Yarmouth\, Ron Ormsby on bass from Centerville\, and Bart Weisman on drums from Orleans. The CCJT has accompanied vocalists Dane Vannatter\, Siobhan Magnus\, Cassandre McKinley\, Tish Adams\, Leslie Boyle\, Lori Colombo\, Krisanthi Pappas\, and Dennis Flaherty.
