SUMMARY:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ Artists on the Cape
DESCRIPTION:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod.\nEXHIBIT: May 23 to June 21\, 2026\nOPENING RECEPTION: May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nOutside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod. Artists such as Joerg Dressler\, Beth Faherty\, Fran O’Neill\, and Paul Rizzo\, among many other skilled creatives\, will showcase their work at Cotuit Center for the Arts from May 23 to June 21\, 2026\, with an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nThe Outside Straight Lines biennial exhibit arose out of concern that much of LGBTQ+ art across the Cape has been unintentionally segregated to Provincetown\, often forcing those showing their work outside of this Queer Mecca into self-censorship throughout other venues of the Cape. In a time of book banning of LGBTQ+ literature\, erasures of crosswalks\, and blatant attacks on trans rights\, this showcase has acted as an affirmation of collective LGBTQ+ expression. With support from the Mid-Cape Cultural Council\, GSAs across Cape high schools have been invited to view this powerful exhibit. \nAccording to curator David Cravenho\, “I am impressed by our LGBTQ+ Community for its strength and resilience. Growing up queer as a child and navigating life through the lens of a straight world is quite the feat.” This exhibit not only hosts 13 Queer artists in a single space but also celebrates the vast diversity of our Queer Cape Cod community–from the expressionist figure to the realistic Cape Cod landscape. Cravenho believes strongly in art’s ability to armor oneself: “Becoming an adult as an artist and putting on your survival mechanism to express your power through your work is a gift from beyond ourselves.” \nJoin artists for an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3-5pm\, or drop by Cotuit Center for the Arts between May 23 and June 21\, 2026 during visiting times to view this powerful visual collection of LGBTQ+ voices. \nMark Adams \nJoerg Dressler \nBeth Faherty \nKenneth Hawkey \nMegan Hinton \nPete Hocking \nMarc Kundmann \nFran O’Neill \nPaul Rizzo \nChristopher Sousa \nAlan Trugman \nForrest Williams \nLaurence Young \nSponsored by the Mass Cultural Council and the Mid-Cape Cultural Council

SUMMARY:History on Tap: Glass\, Everyday Life\, and the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Bonnie Campbell Lilienfeld – Curator at the Sandwich Glass Museum & Historical Society – explores how glass\, both practical and decorative\, offers a revealing glimpse into daily life in colonial New England. Her talk examines the use of glass in early homes\, from windowpanes to tableware\, much of it imported through trade with England and beyond. She also highlights early efforts at glassmaking in the colonies\, considering what these objects reveal about changing tastes\, everyday routines\, and expanding global connections. By the time of the American Revolution\, glass had taken on added significance\, reflecting the economic pressures and political tensions of the era. \nPart of our History on Tap series—join us for an evening of local history\, conversation\, and craft brews. \nAdmission: $10 per person / $5 for members \nMust be 21+ to sample beer; IDs will be checked at the door. \nEnjoy craft beer from our sponsor\, Cape Cod Beer\, along with cheese\, crackers\, water\, and non-alcoholic beer options. \nWe highly recommend reserving your tickets on our website in advance. Popular events often sell out quickly\, and we cannot always accommodate walk-ins. Don’t miss out—plan and secure your spot! “
