SUMMARY:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ Artists on the Cape
DESCRIPTION:Outside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod.\nEXHIBIT: May 23 to June 21\, 2026\nOPENING RECEPTION: May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nOutside Straight Lines II: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Artists is a community art exhibit held at Cotuit Center for the Arts during Pride month aimed toward giving voice to LGBTQ+ arts across Cape Cod. Artists such as Joerg Dressler\, Beth Faherty\, Fran O’Neill\, and Paul Rizzo\, among many other skilled creatives\, will showcase their work at Cotuit Center for the Arts from May 23 to June 21\, 2026\, with an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm. \nThe Outside Straight Lines biennial exhibit arose out of concern that much of LGBTQ+ art across the Cape has been unintentionally segregated to Provincetown\, often forcing those showing their work outside of this Queer Mecca into self-censorship throughout other venues of the Cape. In a time of book banning of LGBTQ+ literature\, erasures of crosswalks\, and blatant attacks on trans rights\, this showcase has acted as an affirmation of collective LGBTQ+ expression. With support from the Mid-Cape Cultural Council\, GSAs across Cape high schools have been invited to view this powerful exhibit. \nAccording to curator David Cravenho\, “I am impressed by our LGBTQ+ Community for its strength and resilience. Growing up queer as a child and navigating life through the lens of a straight world is quite the feat.” This exhibit not only hosts 13 Queer artists in a single space but also celebrates the vast diversity of our Queer Cape Cod community–from the expressionist figure to the realistic Cape Cod landscape. Cravenho believes strongly in art’s ability to armor oneself: “Becoming an adult as an artist and putting on your survival mechanism to express your power through your work is a gift from beyond ourselves.” \nJoin artists for an opening reception on May 30\, 2026 from 3-5pm\, or drop by Cotuit Center for the Arts between May 23 and June 21\, 2026 during visiting times to view this powerful visual collection of LGBTQ+ voices. \nMark Adams \nJoerg Dressler \nBeth Faherty \nKenneth Hawkey \nMegan Hinton \nPete Hocking \nMarc Kundmann \nFran O’Neill \nPaul Rizzo \nChristopher Sousa \nAlan Trugman \nForrest Williams \nLaurence Young \nSponsored by the Mass Cultural Council and the Mid-Cape Cultural Council

SUMMARY:Glass Beads Flameworking Workshop at Flameworks\, Hyannis
DESCRIPTION:No prior experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to have fun! \nStep into the mesmerizing world of molten glass in this hands-on flameworking workshop! \nStudents will be introduced to the fundamentals of working with soft glass—learning how it softens\, flows\, and transforms in the flame. \nGuided step by step\, you’ll create your own unique glass beads using a metal mandrel while discovering essential techniques like pulling delicate stringers\, adding colorful dots\, and experimenting with surface textures. \nThis class is all about exploration and creativity\, watching solid glass come alive as it melts\, twists\, and takes shape right before your eyes.\nWhether you’re drawn to bold patterns or subtle designs\, you’ll have the freedom to play\, experiment\, and develop your own style. Along the way\, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the material and the magic behind the process.  \nSafety & What to Expect: This class will be held at our Hyannis HyArts Campus Flameworks Studio.\nWorking with molten glass is exciting\, but it does require a few important safety precautions.\nFor your protection\, all participants must wear 100% cotton or linen clothing (synthetic fabrics are not allowed)\, along with closed-toe shoes. If you have long hair\, please be sure to tie it back securely before class.\nPlease note that all glass pieces created during the workshop must cool slowly in a kiln overnight to ensure durability and prevent cracking. Your finished beads will be ready for pickup the following day.

SUMMARY:HAIRSPRAY on stage at the Cape Playhouse
DESCRIPTION:HAIRSPRAY\nJuly 15 – August 8\, 2026\nMonday – Saturday  7:30pm \nWednesday – Thursday 2:00pm \nSaturday\, July 18\, 2026  2:00pm  & 7:30pm \nSaturday\, August 8\, 2026  4:00pm \n  \nThe 1950s are out\, and change is in the air! Hairspray\, winner of eight Tony Awards\, including Best Musical\, is a joyful romp through the early 1960s – a time in which traditional roles were about to clash with counter culture\, yielding a whole new way of being a community. Based on Cape Cod’s beloved John Waters’ iconic film\, Hairspray is filled to the brim with laughter\, romance and deliriously tuneful songs. \nIt’s 1962 in Baltimore\, and the lovable plus-size teen\, Tracy Turnblad\, has only one desire – to dance on the popular “Corny Collins Show.” When her dream comes true\, Tracy finds herself in a struggle for integration that pits her against the reigning Teen Queen. Full of period charm and dance that will take you back in time\, it reminds us of the power of music to change the world for the better – because\, after all\, you can’t stop the beat! \n  \nTickets available at: https://capeplayhouse.com

SUMMARY:THE RAINMAKER — A Classic American Tale of Love\, Hope\, and Faith\, on the Hyannis Arts Hall Stage
DESCRIPTION:The Rainmaker —A Classic American Tale\nBrings Love\, Hope\, and Faith to Hyannis Arts Hall Stage \nHyannis Arts Hall and Back Porch Theater present the N. Richard Nash play The Rainmaker\, a tale of love\, hope\, and faith in ourselves and each other\, from Thursday\, August 6 through Sunday\, August 9. \nA surprise hit of the 2025 summer season for the Sandwich Arts Alliance\, The Rainmaker brings a unique blend of humor and insight into the human heart to Hyannis Arts Hall\, an emerging hub for music\, theater\, and film in the historic East End of Hyannis\, behind the Federated Church of Hyannis\, at 81 Willow Avenue \n“A tale of love\, a tale of hope\, a tale of faith – in ourselves and in each other. At a time of paralyzing drought in the West\, where ‘the only thing we have to fear is fear itself\,’ we discover Lizzie\, a girl whose father and two brothers are worried as much about her becoming an old maid as they are about their dying cattle — when out of nowhere appears an unexpected visitor. Honey-tongued and grandiose\, he promises rain. For $100. And the rain comes. And so does love.” \nMassachusetts and Cape Cod actors Neil McGarry and Miranda Jonte return in this American classic. The two will also codirect the production. Funny honest\, and sincere\, The Rainmaker is a quintessential piece of Americana\, and a timeless romance. \nTickets can be found at www.hyannisartshall.com or on Eventbrite.com\, for $35 general admission including fees. Senior/Student/Military admission is $30. Thursday\, Friday\, and Saturday at 7 pm. Sunday at 2 pm. \nHyannis Arts Hall is part of the 501[c]3 nonprofit Hyannis Arts & Film\, along with Hyannis Film Festival and Hyannis Arts & Flea. The organization is devoted to bringing the performing arts and culture to Hyannis and Cape Cod\, and to boost the local economy. \nFind Hyannis Arts Hall at 81 Willow Avenue across from Centerville Dry Cleaners\, footsteps down the gated walkway alongside the Federated Church of Hyannis\, at 320 Main Street.
