Showman with a Paintbrush: The Life and Art of Arthur V. Diehl – Discussion + Book Signing with Eugenia Diehl Pell

June 27th, 2:00 – 3:00 pm

Cape Cod Museum of Art

Eugenia Diehl Pell, artist and granddaughter of the late Arthur V. Diehl, has studied his life and art for forty years. She curated this exhibition and has written a definitive biography, Arthur V. Diehl, available in the Museum Shop. Join us for this one-hour discussion of his life and art.
Arthur V. Diehl was born in London, England on January 6, 1870. He began studying painting seriously at the age of fifteen, and went to Italy to study with Zuigi Stefani in Milan. When he returned, he entered a painting in the Royal Academy exhibition, which was selected for display and later sold. Diehl came to America in 1893, arriving in New York. Unable to support himself off of his paintings, he took a job at a printmaking firm. After losing both of his first two wives to premature deaths, he remarried while living in New Jersey. Arthur and his wife first moved to Cape Cod in 1913, living and painting in Provincetown until he moved to Bourne in 1920. He continued to paint in Provincetown until his death in 1929.
