A diversity of environments in the Northeast resulted in a diversity of shellfish species. In the last fifty years, New England has been at the forefront of shellfish research, innovation, and management, leading to a vibrant shellfishing industry. Join us to hear about shellfishing’s role not just in food production, but in job creation and pollution abatement.
This free Zoom lecture is online only. Please visit our website to pre-register.
A Cape Cod native, Sandy Macfarlane developed an early interest in all things marine. She went on to become the first female municipal shellfish biologist in Massachusetts, and later, Orleans’ first Conservation Administrator. She is the author of several books, and the head of Coastal Resource Specialists, a consulting company devoted to shellfish, coastal, and watershed issues.
