Patriots Day with Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge, Co authors of Boston Strong

Federated Church of Hyannis April 12, 2023 7pm-10pm

Honoring the 10th anniversary of the tragic Boston Marathon bombing.

Join us Wednesday, April 12 at 7 pm as we watch the 2016 movie Patriots Day. This gripping film chronicles what happened on April 15, 2013, when two bombs ripped through the crowd of onlookers at the Boston Marathon on Boylston Street in Boston, killing three persons and injuring over 280. This year marks the tenth year since the event, with the next Boston Marathon set for Monday, April 17.

Directed by Peter Berg, Patriots Day stars Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, J.K. Simmons, and Michelle Monaghan in a largely faithful, face-paced account of that tragic day, the days after, and how the event tore at the hearts and minds of Bostonians and New Englanders.

We’re joined by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge, acclaimed journalists and co-authors of Boston Strong, the early 2015 book that became the main source for the movie. Sherman, a native of Hyannis and former student at Barnstable High School, is author of last year’s new book Helltown: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer on Cape Cod, which is about to be filmed by Amazon as an eight-episode crime thriller. Wedge, an award-winning former reporter for Boston Herald, is a Brockton native who has written for many other national publications. The two are co-creators of the true crime podcast series Saints, Sinners, & Serial Killers.

Sherman and Wedge will talk about their book Boston Strong, how the movie Patriots Day was developed, and what inspires them.
