ONLINE-Visual Journal for Tweens with Jessie Nickerson

This class meets online on Zoom on Wednesdays at 10am beginning July 8. Your class confirmation email will contain the Zoom class link.

This class is for budding artists and/or writers, ages 11-13, who love to tell stories. Students will use mainly visual but also some written components to create their own narratives, fact or fiction. Each class will introduce a new prompt to inspire creativity using different materials and techniques to create dynamic imagery with an emphasis on self-expression. The class will run for two hours and in addition to the instructional component, will include some independent work time. Students will need to provide their own materials, and quiet work space free from distractions.

8×10/9×12 drawing pad or journal of heavy weight mixed media paper. At least 90 lb, 140 lb or higher is ideal. Look for paper that accepts wet and dry media. Wire bound or soft bound (pages should lay flat when book is opened).

Water color set, tubes or pan (inexpensive is fine, Yarka is a good pan set )

Black Extra fine point sharpie/ or micron pens #2, 3 or 5

Colored pencils

Pencils hb, 2b, 4b

Glue stick

Collage materials- (find as many of the following as you can that interest you. These are suggestions, be creative and so feel free to add your own ideas!) magazines, newspapers, cloth, colored paper, natural materials (dried plants, feathers), buttons, ribbon etc.

You will need to be sure the Zoom app is installed on your device. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing a secure link to join the class.

You will be able to login 15 minutes before the class start time. We recommend logging in before the class starts to make sure you are settled in and ready to go when the class is set to begin.

If you are new to Zoom, please note that we will not be able to help with the app. It is strongly recommended that you navigate Zoom on your own before the class starts to get to know the mute and video settings. Try it out by talking with a friend or family member who has the Zoom app. The Cultural Center uses Zoom to conduct online classes, and I understand that the Zoom meeting will be recorded. By participating in the class, I consent to be recorded and place no restrictions on distribution of the recording
