The Hyannis Historical Society is delighted to announce that the guest speaker for our May 4 annual meeting at the JFK Hyannis Museum will be Ellen Briggs, founder and president of Protect Our Past. POP is working Capewide to preserve our heritage of historic homes. It offers an historic home evaluation program with advice from experts that include Town of Barnstable Senior Architect Richard Ventrone. In the works are a compendium of Cape towns’ historic preservation regulations and options, a restoration resource catalog, and “A Pattern Book for Cape Cod” meant to encourage preservation of historic Cape house styles.

Also, POP is building a visual record of films and videos of the historic resources of Cape Cod; these can be viewed at protectourpast.org. Recently, the organization invited Cape Codders to share the interesting stories embedded in the walls of their historic homes for possible inclusion in a new film. As Briggs wrote in a letter to The Cape Cod Chronicle, “contact Ellen at ellen@protectourpast.org to see if your house’s story is titillating enough to make the cut!”

The Society’s membership and general public are invited to the May 4 historical society annual meeting, which will begin at 10 a.m.
