Meet artist Sui Park who will be installing her sculpture PomPom on the Museum grounds on Wednesday, August 4 and Thursday, August 5. Park and Museum Education and Programs Manager Michael MacMahon will walk through the exhibition and have a casual conversation about her work and artistic inspirations, inviting questions from the audience. Park will bring examples of works in progress, which will be available for visitors to touch to better understand her process.

PomPom is a series of vibrant, brilliantly colored sculptures that will appear to be magically suspended among a cluster of blue trees located on the Museum grounds. The sculptures evoke celebrations, exuberant moments, and cheerful memories. Park uses an innovate technique of meticulously weaving and connecting hand painted industrial cable ties, transforming them into organic and biomorphic forms. Inspired by both the natural world and the human experience, Park seeks to capture and encapsulate subtle but continuous changes in the evolution of emotions, memories, thoughts, and expectations.

A New York based artist born in Seoul, Korea, Park exhibits internationally and holds a BFA in Environmental Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MDes in Interior Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design as well as an MFA and BFA in Fiber Arts at Ewha Womans University, Seoul, Korea. Park’s work is currently on exhibit in a public art exhibition, ‘RE:GROWTH’ at 78THSt. on the Riverside Park in New York City.
