Drumming Through Trauma with Sam Holmstock (formerly of ENTRAIN) explores drumming, rhythm, and percussion in a fun environment accessible to all, including anyone with PTSD, Brain Injury, the elderly, and those living with mental illness or neurological conditions. It is very effective to reduce stress, improve mind-body connection, and increase mindfulness. You do NOT have to be suffering with trauma to join this class.
Although some drum technique is taught, the focus is on the development of communication and relaxation. We start with simple easy-to-play rhythms, one rhythm at a time until we reach the point where we can have half the group play one rhythm with another rhythm played on top of the first one to create a web of interlocking rhythms.
It’s an opportunity to get to know some easy basic rhythms and just enjoy the time. Participants of all ages describe feeling “calm and centered” after drumming.
