Beyond Tradition: Sculpting a Realistic Face Jug
May 1 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 10:00 am on Sunday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until May 3, 2020
This three-day workshop will teach clay artists of any experience level a methodical process for creating a realistic face jug. Going beyond the traditional folk-art approach, techniques will be taught for reshaping the pot into an accurate, detailed head without introducing excessive weight. Instructor Paul Haigh will provide demonstration and one-on-one instruction at each step of the process. A variety of options in styling, motif, and finish will help create a personality for each work of art. Participants may throw their own jug on the potter’s wheel, or use one provided.
Clay and tools will be provided, but students are welcome to bring any favorite tools.
Paul Haigh is a professional clay artist and ceramics teacher recently transplanted to pottery-rich central North Carolina. His work centers around using the face jug as a means to explore a wide variety of folk, mythological, and other themes. Before moving, Paul was a dedicated wood firer and president of the New Hampshire Potter’s Guild.
