Mudra is Sanskrit for seal, mark, or gesture. Mudras hand gestures are used during meditation as a way to direct energy flow in the body. According to yoga, different areas of the hand can stimulate specific areas of the brain. By applying light pressure to these areas of the hand, you are able to activate the corresponding region of the brain. Different positions of the hand will improve memory, eyesight, and hearing. It also has a calming effect. This class will begin with gentle stretches and acupressure for relaxation followed by Mudras, meditation and music. This will be facilitated by Town of Barnstable Public Health Nurse, Peg Stanton.

Edible Flowers Class 9/9

August 9, 2017

Aug. 9, 1-2 p.m. RSVP-Free (W)
Learn which flowers are safe to eat, how to prepare, and delicious recipes with samples. The culinary use of flowers dates back thousands of years to the Chinese, Greek and Romans. Many cultures use flowers in their traditional cooking — think of squash blossoms in Italian food and rose petals in Indian food. Adding flowers to your food can be a nice way to add color, flavor and a little whimsy. Some are spicy, and some herbaceous, while others are floral and fragrant. The range is surprising. This program is facilitated by Peg Stanton, Town of Barnstable Nurse.

My photographs were captured along The Great Beach - Beston’s playground, and in Eastham, not far from where his Outermost House once stood. The title of each picture was composed using Beston’s poetic words and phrases from the respective chapter. The exhibit will be displayed and a gallery talk will follow.  Don’t miss this little bit of amazing Cape Cod history.

HDR Photography Workshop w/ John Klingel 8/12

HDR Photography Workshop w/ John Klingel 8/12

August 12, 2017

HDR Photography
Instructor: John Klingel
Day: Saturday, August 12
Time: 9:00am-5:00pm
Price: Members $80/Non-Members $100
A camera can only record about six stops of light compared to the eye which can see 13 to 20 stops. HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography allows a digital camera to photograph up to about 14 stops by taking a series of photos and combining them.
In this hands-on workshop, students will explore how HDR opens up a range of new opportunities for photographers, while learning how to shoot the series of exposures needed for processing. Students will gain an understanding of how to use and read a histogram, one of the keys to successful HDR.
Session includes shooting and how to process HDR photos, as well as a review of the major software applications such as Photoshop CS5, Photomatix 4.0 and NIK HDR Pro. In addition to reviewing the global adjustments, we’ll look at doing local adjustments with Photoshop CS5 masking techniques and NIK HDR Pro control point adjustments. At the end of the sessions, you’ll know how to shoot and process HDR and you’ll have a good understanding of the pros and cons of the various software packages.

Kathleen Warren once again brings her amazing crystal bowls to the BSC. Everything we experience in life is stored in our vibrational being. When we become out of balance from stressors we create blockages that cause us to vibrate out of tune causing “dis-ease.” Crystal Bowls are a vibrational light therapy. The bowls are perfectly tuned to each of your chakras. Experiencing the bowls feels very healing to the mind, body, and soul leaving you with a feeling of wellness.

Seven artists revisit these landscapes in oil and pastel in this summer’s exhibition, “JFK: Lands He Loved. A Centennial Celebration in Art.

President Kennedy gave us the Cape Cod National Seashore in 1961, he summered in Hyannis Port and had his ‘Summer White House” there, and he visited Ireland, the home of his ancestors, as a visitor in the 1940’s and as president in 1963.  These artists have spent time visiting and painting these special places.
