Mudra, Hand Yoga for Health Wednesdays April 5-May 24

April 5, 2017

Apr. 5-May 24, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Free-Walk-in
Mudra is Sanskrit for seal, mark, or gesture. Mudras hand gestures are used during meditation as a way to direct energy flow in the body. According to yoga, different areas of the hand can stimulate specific areas of the brain. By applying light pressure to these areas of the hand, you are able to activate the corresponding region of the brain. Different positions of the hand will improve memory, eyesight, and hearing. It also has a calming effect. This class will begin with gentle stretches and acupressure for relaxation followed by Mudras, meditation and music. This will be facilitated by Town of Barnstable Public Health Nurse, Peg Stanton.

What happens in the brain during meditation versus casual resting? Meditating or resting your brain every day makes a huge difference in how you approach life, how personally you take things and how you interact with others. Relaxation will allow you to see things more clearly and create a sense of calm and centeredness in your life. There are also studies that show meditation can actually slow the progression of dementia and mild cognitive impairment. Take some time for yourself and de-stress. Instructor is Kay Outwin. This is now a paid program and must reach 16 in order for it to continue.

April 19, 2017

Meditating or resting your brain every day makes a huge difference in how you approach life, how personally you take things and how you interact with others. There are also studies that show meditation can actually slow the progression of dementia and mild cognitive impairment. Take some time for yourself and de-stress. Instructor is Kay Outwin. For the first time on Cape Cod, view the award winning and internationally acclaimed artist John Stobart’s 19 original paintings and 12 framed prints of historically accurate views of maritime life in the great age of sail! This $2M collection is an extraordinarily rare example of fine draftsmanship and atmospheric perspective, seldom seen today beyond the recognized historic masters of painting.  Mr. Stobart’s Plein-Air works show nuanced light and spontaneity with broad brush strokes and chiaroscuro effect. This is a rare opportunity for the general public and art connoisseurs to view this caliber of paintings in a world class fine art gallery on Cape Cod, let alone a major museum anywhere in the world.
