Barnstable Clean Water Coalition Discussion with Zee Crocker at Sturgis Library 2/27

Barnstable Clean Water Coalition Discussion with Zee Crocker at Sturgis Library 2/27

February 27, 2018

We will hold a discussion given by Zenas Crocker of the Barnstable Clean Water Coalition regarding what is going on around Cape Cod in regards to our public water supply. The discussion will take place Tuesday, February 27th from 6 to 7:30 PM.

Barnstable Clean Water Coalition: A Rescue Mission

Clean water is important to our health, environment and local economy. On Cape Cod, our marine bays are impaired by excess levels of nitrogen and other contaminants, our freshwater ponds are threatened by high levels of phosphorous, and the groundwater from our sole source aquifer used for drinking is compromised from these dangers. Utilizing education, monitoring, mitigation and advocacy, the Barnstable Clean Water Coalition is working to address the threats to our waters in the 75-plus square miles of the Town of Barnstable.

Learn about the new generation of water conservation advocacy led by the Coalition. This lecture will present the restoration plan for the Marstons Mills River to address the water quality problems caused by excessive nitrogen in the Three Bays Watershed. This innovative plan includes a range of strategies including aquaculture, pond dredging, wetlands restoration, and alternative septic system technologies.

Admission is free. Registration is appreciated.

Movie: Soundtrack for a Revolution 2/28

Movie: Soundtrack for a Revolution 2/28

February 28, 2018

“Bill Guttentag’s documentary examines the importance of music during the U.S. civil rights movement that took place during the 1950s and ‘60s. The various sit-ins and public demonstrations of the era incorporated protest songs, folk tunes and spirituals, music that was a crucial part of the movement. Guttentag uses archival footage and interviews to connect specific songs (covered by artists including the Roots and John Legend) to specific events, such as the Montgomery bus boycott.” (www.google.com)

This movie presentation is part of our Royston Nash Music Appreciation Series, supported in part by the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, the Mid Cape Cultural Council, and the Kirkman Trust.

Dan Logan Author Talk: The Dance Dragon 2/28

February 28, 2018

“After a lifetime of avoiding dance at weddings and social gatherings, Dan Logan finds himself trapped. His daughter, a ballet aficionado, was getting married. A father-daughter dance was inevitable. He confronts his fear of dance and finds the courage to walk in a ballroom dance studio, meets Melissa the instructor, and his life changes.

At the wedding, Dan discovers there are moments when he enjoys dancing and he decides he must face the dance dragon and make a serious effort to learn. His journey takes him into a world of dance studios and clubs, where he dances with hundreds of women, travels to rural Cuba and eventually Washington D.C for a competitive performance for his final confrontation with the dragon.

Author Bio: The Dance Dragon is Dan Logan’s first novel. He grew up in Boston, graduated with a major in American history from the University of Notre Dame, spent three years in the U.S Military and received an M.B.A. in marketing research from New York University

After 12 years working at a large global advertising firm in New York at the end of the Mad Men era, Dan moved back to Boston and started his own advertising and communication firm. Dan and his wife Eileen live on the Boston waterfront” (www.amazon.com).
